I would personally use polyfil.  I think you get FAE more freely with it.

The Tyvek will be ok for colonization but once you move to the fruiting stage, Tyvek will not allow for fresh-air-exchange so you'll need to replace the tyvek with either polyfill or micropore tape at that point or just go ahead and do it now.

I vote for polyfill.

A side note:
There is an option to stuffing holes with polyfill from craft stores.
Polyfill can be purchased in sheet form (and cut to cover monotub holes with tape or rolled to form a plug of any size)
Many home improvement type stores sell packs of 4inch by 12inch sheets of polyfill as electrostatic vent filters for homes. (about 1/8 thick)
Two layers of this stuff works like a charm.
And aquarium stores often have various types of similar polyfill sheets in various thickness's, used for filtration.

I use both, I have 6 tubs and 3 are polyfil and 3 are tyvek, It seems the tyvek allows a greater FAE then trying to fight to move through tightly packed poly...the pores will be all the same size for more even flow with tyvek IMO...and it's just easier IMO

rizing, the polyfil doesn't need to be packed in, it just has to sit there.

From my observations polyfil allows much more air through then tyvek. Postal tyvek doesn't work as well as the tyvek used in tyvek suits. The stuff in the suits is more porous and does pretty well IME. Some people do tyvek on the bottom and polyfil on the top to avoid polyfill getting stuck to the fruits, but it really isn't that big a deal.

You are crazy.  If your tvyek is not allowing for more FEA than polyfill, that means you stuffed your holes way too tight. Tvyek is more for GE than FEA.  A monotub works because of Gentle Air Currents.  Tvyek will stifle these currents, leaving you without your second largest pinning trigger, FEA.  On my tubs, i use tvyek during colonization and then stuff polyfill mildly loose in the holes during Fruiting.

You want fae polyfill will provide that. Use trusted methods if u want results. The less FAE the more likely you will have a contam. Why roll the dice when you know what works. If you have read the teks on this site for double tub and mono tub you see everyone use pollyfill. Go with a tride and true method for results.

not everybody does the same thing here...

but good advise non the less.

here's a poll i made a while back:
What do you use? Polyfil or Micropore for Monotub.

an equal amount of people use micropore to poly.

  Micropore tape seems to work pretty well.. I have it on my mono right now... Polyfill I can't really get it right.. Cause it's hard to judge how tightly you should stuff the holes..

i wasn't even paying attention before,  You don't have your holes aligned properly.  For a mono-tub to work correctly, on each side you need two holes at the top and two holes right above the sub line.  Fresh air comes in through the top holes and pushes the heavier C02 out of the bottom holes.  This is the basic phhilosophy behind a mono-tub and why it works.

I am a greenhouse guy personally and I for one HATE polyfill, its just to damn messy for anything I'm my opinion,I am unable to grow at the moment and that is why the idea of a monotub has been intriguing me,I have never had great luck with them in the past and its always been kinda hit and miss for me.I have never tried using Micopore tape.... This thread makes me think:strokebeard:

I don't get why everyone says polyfill is so messy.  I get polyfill sheets down at meijers that are no more messy than tvyek.  I do love me some micropore tape though.  I haven't been able to find any thicker than two inches though.  I want some of those little squares you see on the RR vids.  They would be perfect for this.
