It's OK. On a few of the songs, it sounds like they took riffs from their older stuff and tweaked them a little. Most of the songs are too long and get boring. The voice isn't quit what it was in '83, and I just can't close my eyes and picture them playing that back in the 80's. Not to mention the ape of a bassist they have haha. I still love Metallica though.

Metallica has never been the same since the Black Album and will most likely never be again.

Every new album since LOAD they are like "YEAH! We're coming back and this time it's gonna be brutal and we are bringing back the double bass drums and going back to our roots! yeah!"

And then the album comes out and it sucks balls.
The real Metallica pretty much died with Cliff Burton.
Cliff was the backbone of Metallica as far as I am concerned. If only Kirk had been in that bunk.
...and Justice for All was all the leftover emotions from Cliff, they still had the fuel burning through their veins. And that was pretty much, their last good album.
Black Album was good, no doubt.. but it was the beginning of a terrible, horrible transformation.

Don't get me wrong, I love Jason Newstead.. he wanted Metallica to be what it was supposed to be. But Kirk, James, Lars, and Bob Rock had different plans.
Did I mention fuck Bob Rock?

While Metallica was good in the 80's they were still whiny pussies back then who were scared of King Diamond and bitched about Slayer when they started to gain popularity.

Cliff is my hero haha. I almost get tears listening to "To Live is To Die". Metallica really did die with Cliff. I'm sure Justice was a bunch of stuff they already had written with Cliff.

I don't know, I'm listening to it now, and I think it's fucking rad.

Way better than the rest of the stuff they've been releasing for the last decade.

I expect it damn well better be better, since they fired Bob Rock, that pussy. And hired Rick Ruben to produce it.
That alone should make it better than anything they've put out in the last 10 years.
But one half decent album is not going to make up for the 15+ years of faggotry and bullshit and greed.

It's definitely better than everything after Black Album. It will never be anywhere near their first four albums though.

man, i have so may great memories of listening to the first few albums. i remeber when master of puppets came out-which is just an extension of ride the lightning imo-it was the greatest thing ever. cliff really shined at that time. as for orion(and call of ktulu), by far my favorite matallica compositions-classical music with destortion.

I listened to Ride the lightning and And Justice for all. I'm no metal man, but it was rough shit. I couldn't make it through the black album, then I heard St. Anger. That was the biggest piece of trash. That pic makes me sad...*vomit*

i should've been more specific. i love bluegrass. i like older country "style" music, the whole "johnny cash-ryman auditorium scene" from the 50's is awesome. but todays pop-country sux a big one.

i like the new album, definitely better than their last couple of albums. if you download it, make sure you get the guitar hero version. i had originally downloaded a regular rip from a cd and thought it sounded rough but i thought that it was meant to sound like that. then after reading some comments on the tracker i got the guitar hero version and it sounds so much better. not as loud and you can hear a lot more details in it.

Probably the only "country" song I like - "The Devil went down to Georgia", by the Charlie Daniels Band....    :headbanger:

Otherwise, I can't stand the "twang" or yodeling of country nor rockabilly music....

A mostly Metal head here....
