Wiccan-Seeker
    #9277222 -

Now that the Jew gold has remained steadily in the 700 - 800 range - we no longer see the Wiccan man.

What gives?

His assignment is complete, so the Illuminati have given him a new project.

No, you fool!

It's becoming winter, and his reptilian masters have ordered him to spend more time under his heat lamp!

No, because the price of gold isnt based on its industrial use.  If it was, gold would be much cheaper.  Its people with gold lust, like wiccan, that artificially drive up the cost and make it more expensive than its practical uses warrent.

A lot of people are stupid and assume that because the price of gold is relatively cheap (considering the peak earlier this year) right now that it will always be cheap. Those kind of people don't want to hear that the price will go up.

So he is probably laying low, right now, ready to stand on his box and preach again when the price goes back up!

I've encountered much the same thing with the whole peak oil debate...the price is currently rather low (around $50) so no one wants to hear about the end of oil.

I understand why gold is a good store of value, but all it takes is a change in the collective public view to deem it worthless.  Gold is considered valuable because it was deemed so thousands of years ago when it was all pretty and sparkly.  Otherwise it's just a rock.

I Love how at the bottom of my screen is the "similar threads" section, and the top link is "Wiccan Seeker's Ideal Woman."

Bottled water costs more than gasoline.

All it takes is a change of public view to make any currency worthless.  A limited mineral resource certainly makes a lot more sense to base a currency off of than...well nothing, like we do now.  Paper money is far less permanent than gold.

Agreed.

But these days paper money has one thing backing it:  the promises that the particular government that issues it will remain viable.

Either way - when i start investing, gold will certainly be a part of my diversification

Fiat FTW.  Nobody stores it for wealth, that would be stupid.  But its great as a medium for exchange of real wealth.

Ya, I don't have enough paper money to start investing in anything right now

When I do gold seems like it would be something good to store a nest egg in...I really doubt you'd find yourself in a situation with no buy for gold.  If for nothing else it'll have value for jewelry (look at diamonds)

Other than that, land seems like the biggest thing I would invest in.  Buy up a couple hundred acres outside a budding town, wait a few years for the urban sprawl, and then cha-ching!  Plus then I'd have a for sure place to hunt all to myself!
