Hannity wrong again.
    #9242214 -

I remember watching Sean Hannity on Fox News back in early September. He had a guest that basically said the economy is in a terrible state, but Hannity absolutely disagreed. Hannity said the economy was in great shape and his guest's ideas were just gloom and doom.

here's the video:

Sure enough, the financial industry nearly crumbled five days later. One more example of republicans having their heads up their asses when it comes to the economy.

both sides pretty much act the same, both think they are persecuted and the other side corrupt. I get so sick and tired of partisan politics...

Wow, Hannity comes off pretty bad there.

Really? Who, when?
Hannity is a gasbag; there are probably a few Democratic pundits who are as bad, but not none with as high a profile.

The Record: Who Tried to Stop the Housing Market Failure that Is Now Ruining Our Economy? Senator McCain

Democrats Lied, the Economy Died

This is what Congresswoman and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi doesn’t want you to see (none of her people will ever pay attention to it, that’s for certain):
Congressional Record; May 25, 2006
FEDERAL HOUSING ENTERPRISE REGULATORY REFORM ACT OF 2005
The United States Senate
May 25, 2006
Section 16

Sen. John McCain [R-AZ]: Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.

The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.

For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

The Preceding were the Words of Senator John McCain
Democrats blocked this bill before it could come to a vote.

That's not the same thing at all - you're linking a shrill conservative source to show that Democrats were shrill.

The point here is that in Sept. Hannity was shouting somebody down for claiming that the economy might be having some trouble. He looks ridiculous in the clip, that's all.

What you've linked is tied to so many real issues it would take forever and we still wouldn't agree - what is the cause of the financial crisis, who/what/when on Fannie Mae, deregulation, CRA, anything else of importance, etc.
It opens a huge new can of worms I don't want to get into now - I'll just indicate I disagree with the linked editorial and leave it at that.

I'm not pickin a fight at all, I just think that repubs and dems are both the culprits.

I think Hannity should invite Kuttner back on the show and apologize and say he was wrong and Kuttner was right about the economy. Of course, that's a decency that Hannity simply does not have.

I think hannity and limbaugh actually work for General Motors .... if youve ever listened to there shows they mention general motors atleast ten times during there broadcast.

For the past few weeks during the election i listened to there shows everyday because i had no internet where i worked. Im a flaming democrat so im trying to call in every ten minutes to cuss him out. But never got through.

The day i could not take it anymore..... A man called in and was speaking of the american indians and how the american government gave them the reservation lands and how it made them all alcholics and free loaders because they were given free land and did not work for it..

I threw up im my mouth a little bit on this one..... hannity imo is the devil in a suit if you want my opinion. He's like a broken record saying the same thing over and over again.

Yeah, this is why I don't think it makes much sense to equate hannity with conservatives.

He's a jackass who talks about shit he's completely ignorant of.  The man is just a buffoon who looses all credibility when he defends indefensible things.  When I see someone take positions I know, with almost absolute certainty, he would not take if they weren't associated with his favored group or ideology, I loose respect for them.  For a commentator about the only thing they've got is intelectual honesty, and Hannity has none.  All he's good for is bringing your attention to arguments or issues you may not have heard before, but given the paucity of original thought, you're left with unoriginal partisan drivel that the man himself wouldn't even buy.  Its just someone who can never concede a point, because his standards change depending upon the subject of the discussion- something I cannot and will not respect.

The man's a clown.

franky gay

Massachusetts Democrat Congressman Barney Frank, who pushed to deregulate Fannie Mae throughout the 1990s, had a gay lover who was a Fannie Mae executive at the forefront of the agency’s push to relax lending restrictions.

Herb Moses, who was Fannie’s assistant director for product initiatives, worked at the government-sponsored enterprise from 1991 to 1998, while Frank was on the House Banking Committee, which had jurisdiction over Fannie Mae.

“It’s absolutely a conflict,” said Dan Gainor, vice president of the Business & Media Institute. “He was voting on Fannie Mae at a time when he was involved with a Fannie Mae executive. How is that not germane?”

“If this had been his ex-wife and he was Republican, I would bet every penny I have - or at least what’s not in the stock market - that this would be considered germane,” added Gainor, a T. Boone Pickens Fellow. “But everybody wants to avoid it because he’s gay. It’s the quintessential double standard.”

Frank met Moses in 1987, the same year he became the first openly gay member of Congress. The two lived together in a Washington home until they broke up in 1998, a few months after Moses ended his seven-year tenure at Fannie Mae, where he was the assistant director of product initiatives. According to National Mortgage News, Moses “helped develop many of Fannie Mae’s affordable housing and home improvement lending programs.”

“I am the only member of the congressional gay spouse caucus,” Moses wrote in the Washington Post in 1991. “On Capitol Hill, Barney always introduces me as his lover.”

In 1991, the year Moses was hired by Fannie, Frank pushed the agency to loosen regulations on mortgages for two- and three-family homes, even though they were defaulting at twice and five times the rate of single homes, respectively.

Three years later, President Clinton’s Department of Housing and Urban Development tried to impose a new regulation on Fannie, but was thwarted by Frank. Clinton now blames such Democrats for planting the seeds of today’s economic crisis.

“I think the responsibility that the Democrats have may rest more in resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me when I was president, to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac,” Clinton said recently.

I think what's funnier is that Hanity invited a one world government fascist on his show to disagree with him about the economy. Say what you will about Fox, but they do invite a wide variety of guests to offer opposing view points.

To my knowledge fox is the only msm outlet that had an austrian economist on after the crsis began to offer his views.

oh, and fuck kuttner

No, they do not. Unless you can show me who the last progressive, anti-imperialist voice that they had on the air was, then they do not offer seriously opposing viewpoints. Who was the last guest they had on who opposes the U.S. occupation of not only Iraq, but Afghanistan as well, & who opposes the entire underlying basis of U.S. militarism?

I don't watch fox news and I certainly don't look for clips of stupid people being interviewed by stupid commentators. but....

google "socialist anti-imperialist fox"

second result

brian moore

good enough?

One simple example: Let's assume for a minute that 'Plan Colombia' is really about fighting drugs (which is, of course, laughable). If the U.S. is justified in conducting fumigations (& all the negative health & environmental consequences that come along with it) to eradicate coca, which is processed & refined into a products that kills maybe into the ten of thousands around the world annually, would the Chinese government be justified in conducting a 'Plan America' (again, with all the negative health & environmental consequences that inevitably come along with it) in the American South to on the basis of trying to eradicate a crop that is processed into a substance that kills millions around the world?

I'm not too familiar with Plan Colombia other than the companies involved in it. Did Colombia grant the US consent to spray the coca?
