Re: Liquid Mycelium, microwaves, good results. * 1

Just as an aside. I made a couple more jars of liquid mycelium last night at around 8pm. It is now 7:30pm the next day and the spores are already germinated and mycelium is growing!

I also innoculated some more Rye Jars (that's why I made more liquid, ran out...), and they're already showing strong growth, and the temp in my room was hovering around 60-65. I'm just so stunned at what happens when you use liquid culturing vs. standard innoculation TEKs.

Woowoo.

Sutec, is the light malt extract you use just basic beer making stuff? Also, I have always used the "traditional" method so my next question may seem a litte basic but here it is anyway: If I do use a p. cooker for peace of mind, will the heat damage the LME in any way? or just be good insurance? Thanks

Well what I use is the liquid innoculum from www.mushroommagic.com. For $16 (plus s+h) you get enough stuff to make literally hundreds of jars.

Sutec,
Thanks for posts. Haven't had experience with micro, but fair experience with liquid culture. Execellent tech. Have seen excellent results. Micro sounds pretty convenient, though!
chestercopperpot, you bet bro! Same shit as in beer brewing. Have seen it work with excellent results. From what I understand, Magic's formula based on this, but with additional ingredients. Ancient Chinese secret, I guess! But very effective. Have also been pretty interested in honey mix approaches posted recently. Can see much merit here. Plus, use honey for some specialized homebrews and mead, anyway.
By the way, for those who wish to know. Magic also goes way beyond what you would expect with help and advise. You can always devise your own systems cheaper yourself, but if you decide o go for prefab setups, they are the exception to the norm. Strictly grow equipment and supplies, though. No spores.
Peace

A final observation,
Malt medium does not seem have same effectiveness for all species. Hard to tell for sure, as of course, other variables enter the equation. Will have to say that I have seen little to no contamination with this method. Only problem seems to be some just don't take to this medium.(i.e. never start growth)
Just personal observations!

I have tried this sometimes now, but I am unsure if it`s contamination or fungus what I see growing...
what colour has the mycelium in the jars?
mine was a bit grey....after a few weeks it started to smell..
I guess I let them stay too long...
I work old lazlos tek for mycelium production with good results...
anyway I`ll tr that again, ever tried using agar melted in water? I have one jar ready and it looks good..
