Liquid mycelium substrate
    #441482 - 10/30/01 01:28 AM (21 years, 10 months ago)

Apparently 4% agar solution is used as a liquid mycelium substrate. If I make a 4% agar solution, it becomes jelly-like, as agar is supposed to - not liquid. So do I just use a lower agar conc. for liquid substrate? Can I just use a 4% aqueous honey solution?

Many thankx,
IudexK

Ive used 30g/L (3% soln ) malt extract quite effectively with b+, GC & others, avaliable at home brew shops. Get the lightest colour you can find. Make up a batch, pour into small jars ( clean baby food jars with holes in the lids) and PC for 20 minutes. Let them cool inside the PC, I find it best to leave it closed overnight.

I love my mycelium juice, It makes colonisation so quick compared to spores.

Duncan8r but what would I know

Don't add agar, just the nutrient mix. i.e. malt extract, dextrose, etc. The agar is what gels it up.
