sending life to mars
    #913296 -

I think it would be interesting to send simple life forms to mars, things like cyanobacteria. Possibly genetically engineer them to reproduce quickly, and suit environment.

Watching evolution happen?

I've always wondered if it would be possible to birth a human child in zero-gravity.....
I wonder what kind of abilities they would evolve to adapt to their environment.

I really think it would be unethical for us to send earthly life forms to another planet, especially when we understand so very little. It's not our place to mess with the natural currents of the universe in such a way.

If you really wanna talk about sending life to another planet though, try venus. They could clear the atmosphere and make it like a second earth by sending algae into the atmosphere, it would consume the co2 and eventually make the planet hospitable to human life, but again, we have no right to do such a thing. We havn't been able to treat our own planet with respect, we shouldn't fuck with another.

Once we determine that they are dead worlds - that there is no life of any sort present - what ethical principle is violated by doing whatever we wish with them? If we decided to colonize the Moon, a world nobody believes has life, what is the ethical issue?

Not trying to be contentious, I am curious about what the idea is.

Like Chubb said, seeing as we're living through the greatest period of mass extinction in earths history since the dinosaurs (and we havn't even been hit by an asteroid...) we should be trying to preserve life here first.

Because general knowledge surrounding the universe is so infinitely small. WHAT IF there is "life" on these planets but we don't see it because we confine the term "life" to include only what we are familiar with. WHAT IF these planets have thier own conciousness, thier own path and our interference in thier evolution serves only to damage what is meant to happen there?

I could be wrong but its definitly worth considering. If we can't manage our own planet responsibly what right do we have to introduce something foreign to another planet?? We have deemed ourselves masters and owners of all we can conquer, but that we certainly are not.

sending the fasists to mars [Re: findbuddha]
    #916113 -

i think we should send all the people who work hard to destroy the earth, to mars and tell them to "make it green again" because if they don't start treating the earth with respect thats waht its going to end up looking like.

i would also like to try space weed/shrooms
