What if Mars were green?
    #2138870 - 11/26/03 10:51 PM (13 years, 16 days ago)

What would our spirituality, philosophy and religion be like if Mars had always been a lush green world? There would no doubt be a space race to Mars as soon as it was discovered that it had vegetation. What if another species similar to ourselves inhabited Mars? Thoughts?

If another species like our inhabited Mars we would finally have peace on Earth. And we'd be at war with Mars instead . Really though I see what you are saying. There would probably have been some big differences in a wide variety of diciplines here on Earth. Before science allowed us to really study the planet there would have been differences like Mars may not have been the god of war but the god of nature or something. After science allowed us to verify O2, atmosphere, and plants or intelligent life there would of course be significant differences. Right off the bat the religious implications would be huge. International relations I think would be significantly different. And I'm sure if there was no one there to stop us it would be colonized by now.

I can't wait until more is known about Mars before it lost it's magnetic field and subsequently it's atmosphere.

What if all these planets were my little invention. I created the heavens and the earth.

There is no doubt in my mind that we would plan to kill them and take it.

Hmm... the persians came up with astrology if I'm not mistaken. so my guess is that any signifigant change would of began around that time.

That is so negative....we wouldn't kill them all. We would let some exist in zoos for public viewing. Maybe we would set up reservations...

What's to stop them from beating us to the punch?

Quote:

No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter. It is possible that the infusoria under the microscope do the same. No one gave a thought to the older worlds of space as sources of human danger, or thought of them only to dismiss the idea of life upon them as impossible or improbable. It is curious to recall some of the mental habits of those departed days. At most terrestrial men fancied there might be other men upon Mars, perhaps inferior to themselves and ready to welcome a missionary enterprise. Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.

Why is it in human nature to war and consume? I feel like I would never do that. But unfortunately, I cannot for sure say that. It really puzzles me.

I thought the same exact thing, It would unite all of the people on earth to fight against another enemy. I think fear is what drives us to do this.

Interesting to be sure. I believe that there is a small percentage of "throwbacks" who naturally feel that there is enough for everyone. But unfortunately a great majority do not share in these feelings.

Well, now I have to consider why he said that to understand what I should say back.
