I learnt to breath fire! - updated PIX

Pictures soon, I promise. I spent last weekend at a workshop in the woods with 250 other freaks learning how to set stuff on fire and play with it. Totally. Fucking. Amazing.

I can't wait for next summer's Shroomery gatherings...

Neither. For breathing you use ultra pure lamp oil in your mouth and white gas on the torch. Fucking addictive. I have been told not to practice alone until I am more skilled, but it is so tempting! I have only been spinning poi for a couple months; I am nowhere near good enough to light up yet, but it's coming along. I wanna be a circus freak when I grow up!

I used to do it when I was a bartender... We used bicardi 151. It didn't taste so bad, but it fucked up the inside of your mouth for awhile from holding it in there... Always used a glass of sprite to rinse. :smile:

The tips go up when people feel the heat of the fireball which is more noticeable than you'd think. Suckers! :smirk:

Fun isn't it? I was doing this at my 21st birthday.  My buddies hired a fire-dancer, and I gave her a fat tip so I could get a photo of me breathing fire.  Some other chick tried it too, and the taste of the lamp oil in her mouth was so bad she started crying afterwards.

I've read that if you swish with vegetable oil before putting lamp oil in your mouth it isn't quite as bad.

I don't know what y'all are using for fuel, but the proper type of lamp oil doesn't taste like much of anything. Honest.

151 certainly works, but there are a couple unnecessary risks; alcohol can absorb into your blood through your mouth lining, so if you are doing a long performance you risk impairing yourself and playing with flame. Not smart. Also, alcohol is highly volatile, that is to say, the fumes burn better than the liquid. For the best flames, you want the atomized liquid to be burning. (If my chemistry is shaky someone can correct me, but I think I'm pretty close)

It was certainly a once per night show, since the setup was a pain in the ass...

But yeah, if you "spray" it through tight lips the fireball is huuuuuge and hot as hell. You can feel it several feet away, hence the nice tips. It really gets attention in a dark bar.

OK it took longer than I thought to be able to do this and I am still figuring out the finer points of (non-auto) focus at night and self-timer fire timing. Basically, these photos are a one man show, so you are seeing two of the dozen I took... Enjoy.
