Obama campaign busily covering tracks to ACORN
    #9067822 -

If ACORN is such an above-board, on-the-up-and-up bipartisan organization, why has Obama been doing everything he can to minimize the history of his involvement with it?

Quote:
The Cleveland Leader has a series of posts tracking the Obama campaign’s lies and evasions about the candidate’s long history of connections with ACORN, and their attempts to quietly edit the Obama website as more information leaks out: Obama Campaign Involved in More Cover-Ups in ACORN Scandal.

Wikileaks.org has an article from the Winter 2003 edition of the magazine Social Policy (the full article is here, but requires registration), making it very clear that Barack Obama’s ties to ACORN are extensive.

(Here’s our local copy of the PDF file.)

Obama started building the base years before. For instance, ACORN noticed him when he was organizing on the far south side of the city with the Developing Communities Project. He was a very good organizer. When he returned from law school, we asked him to help us with a lawsuit to challenge the state of Illinois’ refusal to abide by the National Voting Rights Act, also known as motor voter. Allied only with the state of Mississippi, Illinois had been refusing to allow mass-based voter registration according to the new law. Obama took the case, known as ACORN vs. Edgar (the name of the Republican governor at the time) and we won. Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5000 of them).

Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for STate Senate and then his failed bid for U.S. Congress in 1996. By the time he ran for U.S. Senate, we were old friends.

Hope and change FTW right on!

probibly because of the voter fraud they are connected to. I mean could you imagine how scandalous it would be to be an elected ruler with a huge voter fraud scandal to cloud over your presidency? The only thing that could be more embarrassing is if he choked on a pretzel or fell off a segway scooter.

Why have I never seen that pic?

Phred, I disagree that a minimization/spin effort is in and of itself an admission of guilt under these circumstances.  It's pretty clear that there doesn't have to be anything to a potential scandal for it to make a large difference.

It is a stunningly easy matter for anyone to register to vote.  Anybody who needs help is either infirm or insane.

Another factor driving Obama's distancing himself from ACORN is the results of their strong arm tactics coercing banks to lend to bums and deadbeats, which results have become quite evident recently.  Strong arm tactics that Obama helped train them in.  Organizing, heh.

If you're gonna cite a source, choose a better one than "Iowa Hawk". Yes, registering is easy but there's nothing wrong with encouraging people to register and giving them information about voting.

Iowahawk is not a source.  It's satire.  And so is this:

ACORN has done a lot of good.  Since the fraudulent registrations were so blatantly poorly done that a kid could tell they were forged, I suspect that some forms were lost or stolen and ended up in the wrong hands.

I'm sure if and when the true story ever comes out, it was probably a foe of ACORN who turned in the fraudulent registrations to cause a 'scandal', and the right-wing has sure bitten the bait.  After all, it gives them something besides the depression to talk about.
