Unfolding Nature Shop: Unfolding Nature: Being in the Implicate Order

Der Antichrist
    #8995108 -

"The Christian conception of God--God as god of the sick, God as a spider, God as spirit--is one of the most corrupt conceptions of the divine ever attained on earth. It may even represent the low-water mark in the descending development of divine types. God degenerated into the contradiction of life, instead of being its transfiguration and eternal Yes! God as the declaration of war against life, against nature, against the will to live! God--the formula for every slander against "this world," for every lie about the "beyond"! God--the deification of nothingness, the will to nothingness pronounced holy!"

"It is necessary to say whom we consider our antithesis: it is the theologians and whatever has theologians' blood in its veins--and that includes our whole philosophy."

Personally, I believe it stands as Nietzsche's most radical/bold piece--though fluid, easily understood, and enjoyable, it seems to be more of a ranting commentary on the psychological effects of Christianity (some of which are misrepresented; I believe Plato asserted the earliest Western philosophy which delved into a nihilism).

At any rate, I recently finished reading it and would be interested to hear other commentary and discussion--on any part.

After I read that book, and the twilight of the idol, I was forever changed. Took me several days to regain hold upon myself. lol.

I like to think he speaks more broadly then he lets on, in all his books.
Yet, I find, I agree with almost all of his thoughts and ideas.

If you havent, go read twilight of the idols, an amazing book. You'd like it.

Nietzsche just noticed early on that people were devolving and the collective spiritual 'taste' that society held was on the decline.  I think he would have preferred the more magical image of God that the Egyptians held as well as the mysteries they associated with god.

There's nothing romantic about God as christians practice.  It seems to me that Nietzsche was more of an idealist when it comes to the idea of spirit, this passage suggests that he held the ideal of 'god' higher than some punishment hungry, fear driven soul mogul.

edit: sexy nietzsche?  hahaha yeah at least he isn't bitching and moaning about the music of Wagner in that passage!  Nietzsche was an over rated bitchy asshole IMO he's like that pompous ass at the book store talking a little too load about the absence of the existentialist in post-modern art

I've been in an argument before where a girl took what Nietzsche said ('God is dead') literally. I had to explain that God is no longer relevant is what he meant (in my opinion). Either way, Nietzschean thought has definitely influenced me in a positive way.

The Christian Bible says that Satan is the cause of illness, and that, by God's power, Satanic illness can be cast out.

Rather than calling God a spider, the Bible advises that the worship of creeping things is the evidence of a reprobate mind.

And, while the Biblical God is considered tripartate, acting as a body, mind, and spirit, the full extent of power contained by him is supposed to be reckoned as mysterious, and without fixed preconceptions.

Quote:
God degenerated into the contradiction of life

In fact, humans are said to be uniquely made in the image of God for having free will. God is said to be grace, and the evil are permitted to stray from it.

It is argued by some that God is the author of evil, because angels are merely will-less servitors. Thusly, fallen angels were programmed to do so. It is even written that the selectively redeemed human beings were "predestinated" to be so. Even still, evil can be said to have a purpose, in as much as we, as human beings, are capable of recognizing the difference.

We are not automatons, mindlessly reciting praises and curses, like tape recorders, for we are conscious.

I like this.

I prefer to see God as the Mother of All, a maternal figure of inexpressibly massive proportion in whose enormous folds and curves I play and from whose manifold breasts I continue to suckle. :sun:
