Everyone contends Nietzsche went insane, I disagree. He was actually writing from an enlightened state of consciousness, imo, having known that he helped further humanity a long, to help break the chains so to speak. He was able to tap into that internal eternal oneness. He speaks of having a religous experience, a joyous love for humanity. Mental illness is defined as mental suffering. He was most definitely not suffering..
What do you think? Nietzsche..crazed lunatic?
Or enlightened mystic?
Throughout his career he he put a lot of effort into attacking that kind of metaphysics -oneness and the reality behind the world of appearance and all that.
^ I have to agree with this. I think it's pretty clear that Nietzsche was clinically insane and unwell in his later life, whether it was actually from syphilis or something else.
I mean, the whole mental breakdown in the street thing, ordering Kaiser Wilhelm to go to Rome to have himself executed, etc...
I can see what you mean to some extent though, that some of his thought has been put down to insanity when it shouldn't have. But he definitely did go insane.
