Right. I think it's the same here. Though our sales tax is nation-wide, collected by the federal tax agency and then given back to the states - this means the tax is the same everywhere, which makes things easier.

Mind you I don't believe that those other taxes are enough to fund our states, considering they operate our schools and hospitals - the states must get a sizeable portion of federal income tax too, I reckon.

I thought it was a pretty good interview.

O'Reilly was actually on his better behavior.  He was still trying as hard as he could to make it all about him rather than Barack, but he wasn't the absolute boor that he usually is.

Kudos for Obama for being on there.  I doubt you'd see Mccain go on Olbermann's show.

What Madtowntripper said, plus they get a return from the federal government for various programs as well.  It is a rather silly system that is open to a lot of abuse.  For example, the federal government will force states to "behave" by threatening to take away their various federal kickbacks (such as funds for roads and highways, etc).
