Is it the overt patriotism or do you find them to be factually inaccurate?

IMO it's  the overt patriotism.  This has no place on a news channel. Unfortunately it happens on most US news channels.  How can you be sure that you are receiving objective news?  The opinion sections on Fox News, ie The O'reilly Factor, Hannity and Colmes etc, are a joke.  O'Reilly's "interviewing" technique is to basically yell at anyone who doesn't agree with him, and to quickly change the subject if someone effectively rebuts what he says.

Also he said that he would eat his words if the US did not find any WMD in Iraq after the war.  As far as I know he hasn't.  Please post the link if he has.

BTW, IMO all news channels are biased, and generally full of shit.  I prefer the BBC, but only for its excellent docos, and "Hardtalk" hosted by Tim Sebastian.  This guy would kick O'Reilly's ass...verbally.

*zing* there's no way that you have TV in that trailer.

Would that be Fox News or the fox channel?

There's a difference between FOX and the FOX News channel. The FOX News channel is all news, like CNN or MSNBC. Yes, almost all cable companies in Canada carry The King of the Hill and The Simpsons, but that is the Fox entertainment part of the company. Not the same thing at all.

I know for a fact that in the capital of Canada (Ottawa), the cable doesn't carry FOX News, the O'Reilly Factor, etc. It also doesn't carry MSNBC or HBO. Can you get any of those three in Toronto? Montreal? Vancouver? Nope. The CRTC doesn't allow it.

The CRTC doesn't allow it.

Actually from what I can see the CRTC is currently in the process of considering a request to have FOX News imported into the country. No where could I find info (except on random boards where Americans rant about us not having FOX News yet) that said the CRTC is actively keeping the chennel from our cable companies.

How old is this station? What % of the Canadian population is requesting that we pick up the feeds? Those are important questions here...as this doesn't look like a freedom of speech issue so much as a foreign station which has never been broadcast in the country but is looking to expand into our channel lineup.

The CRTC has a bunch of restrictions on what can and cannot be shown in Canada. As a Canadian, you must be aware of the infamous "Canadian content" guidelines.

Their guidelines are even more stringent when it comes to news. You'll note that there are no BBC news broadcasts either. The only reason CNN gets away with it is that although US based, they do have a large enough Canadian news office and production facilities to barely squeak by under the CRTC "Canadian content" restrictions. If you have a high boredom threshold and can sit through an entire 24 hours of CNN newsfeed, you'll see a lot of Canadianized segments which the Yanks never see.

It's not that the CRTC is deliberately discriminating against FOX in particular. As I noted earlier, MSNBC doesn't fill the requirements either. Nor does the BBC.

I understand that it may have been some time since you've been in the country...so you can be forgiven for being wrong here...

Because I certainly do get BBC News, it's one of my favorite news channels

this is the key point, which right-wingers, especially those who work for Fox News, choose to ignore.

Umm... is there a BBC channel on your cable lineup or does CBC or PBS or whatever other channel have a nightly BBC news program? There's a difference, you know.

As far as I know, CRTC rules do not prevent a certified Canadian broadcast or cable channel from providing syndicated individual programs, be they news or non-news -- as long as the channel itself abides by the "minimum Canadian content" restrictions. A half hour BBC news broadcast daily still allows the channel in question enough other hours in the day to provide that minimum.

But a 24 hour English news channel cannot exist under the current CRTC regulations.

Is that a cable screenshot or a satellite screen? In Ottawa, the only folks I know with channel numbers in the 500s are those with satellite feeds. The rules are different for broadcast, cable, and satellite.

Give us a screenshot with FOX News. Or MSNBC.

I don't get either of those...and yes it's a canadian satellite

I get a lot of Canadian dontent (good), a few of the big network feeds from the US,  and some specialty channels all owned by a few big companies. It's all heavily cut up, anything that's not a "canadian" channel. I'm sure the commercials are mostly canadian. I have friends who like american satellites, but I prefer the Canadian dishes for the content

I'm glad to hear all you Canadians are contented with your governments mind control over you. Doesn't it bother you that your government controls what you see and hear?

Maybe you're the ones who need to fix your own country before you criticize ours chief. Free your own mind first.

its pretty amazing that someone here thinks that if a country doesnt send this and this american tv news they are beeing mind controlled and brainwashed (notice how only an american will ever claim something like this on this planet EVER : america and americans are full of themself), now there is no more propaganda\brainwashing news than american news so how can they brainwash themself by not sending brainwashing news, if not political than with all the damn commercials. american tv is crap for me and im sure its crap for alot of canadians as well. but some claims here in this thread is uberstupid.- time to wake up go outside and smell the grass some maybe

as the matter of fact, america would do the world a favour if it kept most of its tv shows either its news or ricki lake inside america and didnt export it.

kthx
