I want to be a novelist, but I've thought of plenty of other things on the side. My family has some nice farm land in the mid-west that I technically own (being the oldest male not in jail, haha), so I might try and farm something out there. I was thinking hops. I like the idea of my crop being used in some American brew.

Other than that, I'm not really a business guy.

If it was 5 years ago, I would say that I would want to start a gaming lan center. But I think pc gaming is on its way to the grave. :nonono:

I guess I would start a  steak/seafood restaurant if I picked a business now.

new businesses are pretty fucked now a days though, so I wouldn't waste my money.

A strip club that alternated nights as a male and female strip club. Mon,wed and friday and sunday would be female and tues, thurs and sat would be male.

That way I can take money from both sexes.

I ask ya'll this question because I have started a few businesses now and it is so much fun. Shitload of work, but it doesn't seem like work at the time. I started my frist real (aka: I payed taxes) when I was 19 years old and it tanked because I was an idiot... basically. I learned a lot and lot about 10 grand in the process, which stung a lot. Since then, I have started and sold 2 businesses and current run my recent start-up which, if everything stays on course, I should pull in $50k in the first year. My problem is that once I get a business established and running great, I get bored. I really enjoy starting a business from scratch, no matter what it is, and solving the problems that need to be addressed to make it profitable. But, once that goal is reached, I get bored in the drudgery of just running it. I already have my eye on the next business I am starting, which is a school. The cool thing about starting the school is that I can move on and start satellite campuses around the country. Hopfully that will still my desire to start over, but it will also be me still growing the same business. We shall see.

If any of you have the desire to be self employed, you should go for it. If you are the type of person that wants to set your own schedule, take whichever days off you want, do everything how you want... don't ever start a business. You would fail. It isn't like that at all. You go in very early and usually stay very late. You set up hours around what customers need. If they need you there at 8am, you probably open at 7am. And you can't just lock the door when you want to go fuck off for a day. You also probably won't be able to afford employees for the first few years... so it's you... working open to close 6 days a week... and it is fucking AWESOME. You can choose how to run it and if it doesn't work, it is the idiot boss, just like where you work now. But since you are that idiot boss, you can adapt and change. It's your choice.

just realized i've been rambling for a while now. YAY for opioids.

cool thread topic

i'd start an all-medium artists' guild, that would have some common interests amongst all the artists (sort of a like-minded community of artists). dunno how it would function or be successful, but i think it'd be fun.

mine is never ending, if a goat, pig or cow is delivering, I
have to be there in case it needs a little assistance, seems
they all want to do it at 2am, sometimes I have issues with the
fence, I have to round up what gets out and repair it before I
can do anything, cows get milked at 5am, I'll have to be up at
4 so I can get some coffee, it's an everyday job and no one else
will do it, I take advantage of the times I'm not stuck working
but in the spring and fall... it's sometimes 16-20hrs per day

and I dont see the first customer

there's certainly no rest for someone that wants a successful
business, even after you're established it's still a few years
before I'd even consider a few days off

not to go off topic, but it is my thread... when did you start typing in short segments like that? if they get any shorter, you may be getting into hippie3 territory.

just curious.

I would like to open a fungi themed restaurant called the Delectable Pellicle, where I would grow the edibles on-site behind observable glass, and have a really cool atmosphere maybe where the tables are shaped like mushrooms and there is cool antique fungi paraphernalia everywhere.  Since they are in season all year long, sustainability would be an easy model.

Or..a Cuban coffee stand and lunch hut, where I would sell completas of rice, black beans, fried plantains, and choice of meat or veg.  Food appeals to me, although I have a huge variety of interests.

Well....

I am planning on becoming a teacher, along with my lady. In a few years she is going to work on opening up a dance studio. And down the road I'm going to open up a Herbal/Botanical Shop, also selling organic food and other "green/earthy" products such as solar systems, etc...

Thought it would be a good idea since everyone is jumping on this "Go green" and be environmentally conscious bandwagon...
