When you're old, people will ask you "What did you do with your life?", and you'll say "I ran a few McDonald's locations".

Maybe you'll get rich, though.

Being a lawyer is intensive work sometimes. When you're getting ready for a trial you're looking at a few 12-14 hour days of prep work. If you have a heavy caseload you'll be working long hours all the time too. I guess it depends, long hours working and moving around all day doing light work or long hours wearing a tie in an office. Which do you prefer? BTW, you really need advice from people that opened fast food franchises and not just input from the good folks here.

You gotta make money somehow. If you think owning a McD's franchise will make you happy and able to live comfortably then I say go for it.

I had a friend in high school whose dad owned like 5 McDonalds franchises. He had the nicest house out of anyone I knew at the time.

its easy work being the owner.. much harder being store manager.

if you need any further help, PM me... like i said, i worked for McDonalds franchise for about a year and half.

McDonalds?

Big corporations are ruthless, all of them, but some of the worst of them fuel the cars you all drive (even Zippoz, I'm sure he's already got his biodiesel eyes on your McDonalds waste oil ) so all who come down on McDonalds so hard best sell off their evil polluting car, ride a bike and cook on chicken-farts.

Shroomnoob wants to start his own business and y'all are coming down on that

Reaching into the big hat of retained factoids:

Location is everything. If your location sucks, your fastfood franchise is doomed.

Your investments here and there might well by far overshoot the $500.000 mark. What this means is that you can be so unlucky to have to spend the rest of your life paying off the debt if this project goes south. Make SURE it is as redundently safe an investment as you possibly can, look into insuring your business and business plan from day zero.

McDonalds works with involved and tight schedules and can be quite hectic. There's high stress potential. You might think of walking around in your own palace, occasionally feeling up a hamburger bun or two checking for freshness while your busy little elves will do all the work for you. No sirree. Enter a McDonalds around lunchtime and observe it as a business. There will be stress and you will be part of it.

Running your own business might mean you in one way or another spend an insane amount of time on it, sixty hours a week is common for people with a small business.

Don't make a habit of eating what you serve. Sorry to say, it's still a McDonalds  People can continuously gain several pounds every month if they often eat at fastfood joints. Its "comfort food", not stuff you should eat as a means to get your nutrients.

Spend time to think of outlandish mishaps. Spend an afternoon or so reverse reading the McDonalds brochures and pick them apart like a jerk. Expect that there are tremendous pitfalls that get slightly hinted at, but may become very real problems. A friend of mine is into health products mailorder and got harped at about this great new health product called Noni Juice he could sell. He handed me a completely rosy brochure which I hacked down to the bottom line in less than a minute. "Don't do it. The only thing they're vague about is the flavor and it says here this and that fruit extract is added to it for no good nutritional reason: Noni Juice MUST taste like shit or they'd harp about the flavor without end. DON'T buy a wholesale box, buy a consumer dose of the stuff somewhere else first." He did, and he  told me it tasted worse than shit. My one-minute reverse read saved him hundreds of dollars right off the bat.
WHAT ARE THEY NOT TELLING YOU? What wonderful sales argument they mysteriously omit or under-advertise? Look online for the failure stories of less fortunate managers.

I know someone who runs a small business, I don't think she ever sleeps, good luck though.

Its this kind of stuff, thats sold in bottles in health food stores:

Avoid it like the plague. Its quite healthy, really, but prices tend to be high because its still in the hype stage, and it apparently tastes so foul that Tourettesguy would sprain his throat trying to describe it :smirk:

Let me get even more graphic: My friend was all for the hype but followed my advice and bought a consumer bottle instead of a box. He was gripped by the hype about the health and fountain of youth harping, but he ended up pouring the remainder of his expensive bottle down the sink. He said he couldn't justify it to Christ to sell people stuff that tastes so disgusting, without warning them about it on his site (which would mean no sale obviously, imagine a high priced exotic fruit juice that tastes like ass) because people would be so disappointed. (yup, he's a great guy) He said it tasted worse than Cubies and Morning Glory Seed and watching him suffer to get those down is downright frightening.

In the healthfood business Noni Juice is one of the hypes, but if you'd base your business on it or stocked up big, chances are huge you'll lose your money and some customers.

A McDonalds franchise is no Noni juice and its food is universally palatable (euphemism for bland) but there must be things you really should know, but they're not telling.
