Dark Star Orchestra
    #8702227 -

Who's seen them? I saw for the second time last sunday. I dropped one hell of tab on my tongue and danced the night away. They really take me back to a different era, one that I was too young to see. DSO is goes beyond words at times. The exceed all expectations and then some. They played 7/27/74 last Sunday. The time before that they played a better set list(7/18/89) but the quality of the shows were equal. Sunday, they had one drummer and had a girl that I thought could sing better than Donna. Hell of a show.

Now, Radiohead this Sunday.

I've seen them a few times. Always had fun, even as security escorted the girl I was with out. Making me miss the second set at the last show.

Say you'll come back when you can
Whenever your airplane happens to land
Maybe I'll be back here too
It all depends on what's with you

damn. both times I've seen DSO there they didn't have security. The crowd gets more into DSO shows than any other crowd i've seen. No doubt because they are playing Grateful Dead music.

I'v seen them 7 or 8 times and I think it is because they are playing Grateful Dead music. Compared to the other solo projects, they sound the closest to what Jerry and the boys sound like. Phil, Bobby and Mickey of course play dead tunes but it's there respective bands reincarnation of it. DSO recreates; extremely well, what the Dead actually sounded like...of course IMHO. :gd_icon:

If it was from JGB, it is Melvin Seals. Big, jolly black guy.

They sound really good, but there still just a cover band.  They might as well just play some views from the vault and have a bunch of impersonators pretend to play.  I'm still looking forward to seeing them tomorrow at gotv though, its always fun to see them (except for 12-30-2007 count basie show in which they just played random songs, not an actual set and it sucked).

You can find the clips of Melvin on my YouTube channel.  Make sure to play them in high quality mode!

I just got a new DVD burner, haven't hooked it up yet, but it's a step in the right direction.
One of these days I'll make a proper archive of my choicest concert footage.

blissedout: I hope you can make it out this way.  There are indeed some nifty spots to see and experience in this city, though this isn't always the most progressively pot friendly city that it can sometimes be made out to be.  In fact, the el Rey theater that I posted a picture of above, is quite notorious for being pretty touch on its patrons. :undecided:
