It's obvious the people who like them alot are the ones who never seen the Grateful Dead, I wonder what some Dead veterans like Ripple and Chinacat would think of these guys.

I'm sorry dude but that made no sense. The Dead is awsome I love the music they play. DSO is good too, they're not the most astonishing band out there but they're good. Shit, they're setup like the dead with 2 drummers too.

Good music is good music. They're different from the dead but I prolly mistook your quesiton.

I'm not trying to bring anyone down, I'm very happy people enjoy them so much, there is nothing wrong with people gathering to hear great music they can dance their asses off to. I do have opinions about them that aren't positive, I don't agree with the idea of a touring band being a cover band, also the music lacks in some key aspects of Deadom but these are personal opinions I won't cloud anyone elses thoughts with. I've seen many serious Dead-heads dis-regard them, most of the people who are out seeing them are either there for the first time or have never seen the Dead, I think that says something in itself.

I saw them once. There good , but I'll never see them again.
I can't enjoy Dead cover bands no matter how talented they are.
I'm not saying they shouldn't play or can't get people off, I just can't let go of the fact it's not the real thing. Thats my personal problem and if other folks like them , then I say great. I see nothing wrong with it ,if you can enjoy it.

It is hard enough to see the remaining real band without Jerry. I saw a few Other Ones shows over the years and couldn't enjoy them either. Every time I would look at the right side of the stage were he used to stand it would kill it for me.
As for this upcoming incarnation of "The Dead" I plan on trying to let go of that.
The truth is these guys make fabulous music without Jerry.

The other night me and my wife were out on the porch talking about the summer tour. I was telling her how It was going to be great to see all our friends ,but I was still leery of the right side of the stage. As always she came back with a simple, but truthful remark. She said " so what do you think Jerry would have wanted?"
She likes to ask me questions I know the answer to.
She was right. He would have wanted the music to carry on. Through the Dead, through DSO, or any other medium possible. The Grateful Dead was so much bigger than Jerry and it's our duty to keep it alive. So if DSO gives you contact with that energy, I say hell ya boogie your ass off!

It's going to be a special summer. In 95 when Jerry died alot of us just quit and walked away from the Dead. I was tired , burned out ,strung out and Jerry's death sent me packing. I needed to get some distance and perpective to appreciate what I was honored to be a part of. This summer for me is about getting out there and letting it be known that the Grateful Dead is as alive as ever. I know most of my friends feel the same way. The world is going through some dark times and the energy is needed more than ever. Jerry Garcia may have died but his spirit and the spirit of the Grateful Dead will live forever.

I love you too man

Another thing about DSO. Again this is my personal opinion.
The recreation of past shows is a real turn off.
I don't want to hear them try to recreate some spectacular Dead show.
It takes all the suspence out of it. If I have the show on tape I don't want to hear them play it.
Again just my opinion.

I can't believe people tape these shows and what really gets me is they listen to them and trade them!

Reading that, I see where you're coming from. I wouldn't go see DSO again either jus cuz they were missing something. I saw The Other Ones and they blew me away (5hits will do that to ya) but it sucks I never saw Jerry.

For the love of God , tell me this isn't true!

How the hell do you trade something like that. "oh man I got winterland 12/31/71 from Detroit 5/17/03"

Please tell me this isn't true.

I would say yes. After a couple beers, they creepily sounded pretty on. I saw them in a place with 200 people for like $5. As I understand it they now play amitheatres?

DSO is fun go have a few drinks and catch some good live music that we;re all familiar with. They are technically proficient and talented, it definately takes some skill to do what they do. There always seems to be something blatently missing when I see them though. It's like, they play the notes and chords well they jam well but there's just no passion behind it, no soul. It's like the difference between looking at a flower or a picture of a flower, no comparison IMO.

< You're gonna do better?

If I was out trying to make money with Grateful Dead material then you could ask me that question.

I should stay out of here, I think maybe I'm trying to stir the pot alittle and I don't need to   That was a quote from Jim Carrey about these guys on Letterman last night, or so I hear.

I think they do a good job. well worth the $20. check em out for yourself. If you like the grateful dead, you'll have a good time. This coming from an old-timer. 2 cents.

I have seen them on 3 occasions, I danced and had fun but 20$ is to steap for a cover band, and I've never seen them that cheap, I think all my tickets were 23-27$ if my memory serves me correctly.

Oh I forgot to add that I had one hell of a time the first time, they played NYE 77 I believe and the show went on and on for ever! Don't get me wrong they are great at what they do, but if you don't care for their idea it's hard to give them your money.
