they were in town here a few nights ago. if you like the dead, you'll probably like darkstar...

they actually recreate dead shows note for note. it's pretty cool.

There's coming to NYC in November for 3 nights, so I'll try to hit up at least one of the shows. Never seen them before, though.

I saw them once and didn't care for them. After seeing the real thing well over 300 times I can't enjoy Dead cover bands at all.
Thats not to say their not good and you shouldn't go see them, its just I personaly can't get into them. Seems alot of folks like them and thats great. Whatever spreads the music is alright in my book.

One big turnoff for me was that they play exact replacations of Dead shows. This takes away the spark and improvision of the musicIMO. It would be nice if they just jammed on their own. I guess I didn't like it because the show they played I had actually been seen the Grateful Dead play.

I saw them at a small venue with a good bar. They played a show where the Dead didn't do an encore. So the encore was "improvised." I think they do original set lists once in a while.

The main thing I remember was the crowd energy was real strong. At some points during the show, you could sing along at the top of your lungs and all you heard was everyone singing along at the tops of their lungs. Good fun.

Ain't the Dead tho, that's for sure.

I saw them a couple times last year they are an awsome show. Except for the last time. I was almost barfing the whole time, my girlfriend puked all over the floor. She's the MAD BARFER. When she needs to puke you better start running. Ah good times... good times.

They got up there and did their thing. They jammed out but a cover band can't compare to the real thing. It's just not the same.

Just saw the Dead at Summerfest here a few months ago too. No Jerry though...

I imagine I could find worse ways to spend 20$ than a DSO show...

Well, they are a cover band, but they are very talented. The Dead has long been my favorite band. Been hitting shows since the early 70's and still like to hit the road for Dead and Phish shows along with every festival that I can. When they're around I go see them. They put on a good show. Just my opinion.
