Dark star is good. The people that don't like them are people who consider themselves hard core dead heads, concited hippes, ha. They play the music well and it's fun to see/hear. I saw them once and had an fine time.

It's about 100x better than a Pink Floyd laser light show.

Or they had the real thing enough to not like any cover band. Some people just don't like cover bands at all either, mostly musicians. I don't really care for the uncreative aspect involved but they are still a fun way to spend an evening if they aren't charging to much. It still blows my mind these bands can tour the country on other peoples materials.

The Machine fucking rocks, I saw them at the second Bonnaroo, they are alot of fun.

You say it like they are running around getting rich and disrespecting the artist. It's out of love or some crazy fantisy, they don't make much profit. It guess it shows how scarce good music is.

I think of it as a quick fix. I like knowing what they are playing and it doesnt matter to me who plays it as long as it sounds good.

I saw The Machine at that Bonnaroo also. Then In Nj and then in NYC.

Touring the country with the set up DSO has and charging 20+ a ticket is alittle to much for me, I would see them again if it wasn't far away but I think they are over doing it by playing every show the Grateful Dead ever played. That is just me.

I've seen DSO about 5 or 6 times and they never dissapointed. It's amazing how much they sound like GD. It doesn't seem right sometimes paying more than $15 to see them but I guess everyone needs to make a living. As was said above, it's not like these guys are getting rich off touring. It's just their way of worshipping the music they love. They love what they're doing and most of the crowd does too so I hope they keep it up for a long time. I'll see them anytime they come withing a 100 mile radius of me. Last time I saw them it was free and that was awesome.

Do tell. Any details of why they didn't like them?

I saw them once and didn't like them at all. I'll admit that after seeing the Grateful Dead and JGB over 300 times i'll never find a GD cover band I'll like alot.
The thing that bothered me most about them was the fact that they pick a show from the Dead's past and play it song for song. One of the main thrills about the GD was that we didn't know(or the band either) what song they were going to play. The spontaneity of making it up as you go along was a huge factor in the Deads magic. Dark Star Orchestra don't have that.

This is just my opinion though. My friends from the old day's don't like them either BUT if people like it and get off on it then more power to DSO. If it turn's people on and they can capture some joy from them then it's good that their out there spreading it. It's just that for me there is no way I can get off on it, especially when I know what song's their going to play.
