i've never seen them, but people were just saying it's lame because it's a band that is covering the exact set that a different band did and it wasn't anything the same...idk, i've never seen them, and i've heard stuff along those general lines.

they are lil things that make my tummy flip around, and they make what you see do the same thing. And I told some one I was farting around earlier only to find that a few minutes later there is a post about farts. Now this is all too creepy so I must get some sleep before I am up all night peeking out from under my sheets with my flash light.

I don't know anyone know's seen the real deal and liked DSO. I've seen them a few times and had fun but it bugs me to know I payed so much for a cover band.

Hmmm....it'll be interesting. Maybe I will try to pretend it's my boys. I do know one person- a huge deadhead- and the only one i know irl that's seen dso- and he loved them. Oh well- I will just keep an open mind and see. I hope it isn't too expensive! How much did you pay Adom?

when i first saw them, i thought it was VERY wierd & missed the real thing. once i was able to suspend my judgements and allowed myself to just enjoy the music, i had fun. they are actually good musicians, just utterly unoriginal. i wouldnt pay over $20 to see a cover band, though.

Dark star is good. The people that don't like them are people who consider themselves hard core dead heads, concited hippes, ha. They play the music well and it's fun to see/hear. I saw them once and had an fine time.
It's about 100x better than a Pink Floyd laser light show.

Or they had the real thing enough to not like any cover band. Some people just don't like cover bands at all either, mostly musicians. I don't really care for the uncreative aspect involved but they are still a fun way to spend an evening if they aren't charging to much. It still blows my mind these bands can tour the country on other peoples materials.
The Machine fucking rocks, I saw them at the second Bonnaroo, they are alot of fun.

You say it like they are running around getting rich and disrespecting the artist. It's out of love or some crazy fantisy, they don't make much profit. It guess it shows how scarce good music is.

I think of it as a quick fix. I like knowing what they are playing and it doesnt matter to me who plays it as long as it sounds good.
I saw The Machine at that Bonnaroo also. Then In Nj and then in NYC.

Touring the country with the set up DSO has and charging 20+ a ticket is alittle to much for me, I would see them again if it wasn't far away but I think they are over doing it by playing every show the Grateful Dead ever played. That is just me.

I've seen DSO about 5 or 6 times and they never dissapointed. It's amazing how much they sound like GD. It doesn't seem right sometimes paying more than $15 to see them but I guess everyone needs to make a living. As was said above, it's not like these guys are getting rich off touring. It's just their way of worshipping the music they love. They love what they're doing and most of the crowd does too so I hope they keep it up for a long time. I'll see them anytime they come withing a 100 mile radius of me. Last time I saw them it was free and that was awesome.

I saw them once and didn't like them at all. I'll admit that after seeing the Grateful Dead and JGB over 300 times i'll never find a GD cover band I'll like alot. The thing that bothered me most about them was the fact that they pick a show from the Dead's past and play it song for song. One of the main thrills about the GD was that we didn't know(or the band either) what song they were going to play. The spontaneity of making it up as you go along was a huge factor in the Deads magic. Dark Star Orchestra don't have that.
This is just my opinion though. My friends from the old day's don't like them either BUT if people like it and get off on it then more power to DSO. If it turn's people on and they can capture some joy from them then it's good that their out there spreading it. It's just that for me there is no way I can get off on it, especially when I know what song's their going to play.
