if p. cyanescens are more potent, then why is it p. cubensis have become more popular? is it simply due to the variety of different strains? also, i'd like to try and give these p. cyanescens a shot. how difficult are they to grow?

Actually Psilocybe cyanescens has highest content of any of the 1789 species of psilocybian mushrooms found throughout the world. Both I and Ott have ananlysed these mushrooms and we have had grams of young carpophores of P. cyanescens which produced 6 to 8 doses in a dried gram. P. semilanceata takes twenty to forty mushrooms fresh and one gram or more dried to produce a good dose equivelent to a mazatec mushroom ceremonial dose.P. cubensis on the other hand, takes from 3 to 5 grams of dried wild outdoor material and from 1 to 3 dried grams of in vitro grown material to produce the same effect (Some users consume 5 top 7 or more grams for desired effects of P. cubensis. In fresh mushrooms, one fresh ounce of P. cubensis or more could be one large shroom or as many as from 3 medium sized shrooms or from 10 to 50 small mushrooms to produce an effect equal to a ceremonial dosage. Mjshroomer. I have posted this information about every three months now for a year and a half. Someone there whould post tthis information in the FAQ. mj

A comparison of the combined naxima of psilocybin, psilocin and baeocystin shows P.Azurescens as the most powerfull species. http://www.fungi.com/info/gallery/psilochart.html

Has anone tested a fresh azure? What I have read pointed to low psylocin contant due to the test being done from dried 6 month old mushrooms. not sure where I read it maybe 'psylocibin mushrooms of the world' not sure though.

Pauls graft chart is incorrect but I am not going to get into it. P. bohermica is not as strong as P. cyanescens.P. cyanescens is 5 times more potent at cetrtain levels than P. azurescens which also loses over 40 percent of its potency within six months of storage. I have some p. cyanescens which yields 80 doses per dry ounce. Cubensis yields between ten to 15 mild doses per ounce. And by the way, Paul gave me the original of that graph from his book. mjshroomer

All the graphs and assertions are very nice, but actual reports of consumption and experience between the heavyweights would convince me more. I've not had the pleasure of experiencing azurescens, but cyanescens were certainly potent in tiny amounts; a couple little inch-long fruits was quite poigniant. A related tangent question relates to baeocystin [sp?]; those levels seem to vary quite a bit. Could this play a role in the reported stronger trips of azure's? Honestly, I don't think I could unbiasedly judge a known azure trip. My expectations would enhance the experience most likely.

I took 1.2 dried gram P.Azurescens 3 weeks ago and it gave me the same level as 1 week after I picked them. I get approyimately the same effect from 2.5 g dried P. Cubensis PF strain(both stored in fridge).

About twenty years ago, Jeremy Bigwood consumed 30 milligrams of baeocystine and reported that the effects were very similar to Psilocybine and claimed that it would be hard to be distinguished between them.mjshroomer [This message has been edited by mjshroomer (edited July 27, 2000).]

MJ, I just heard most of Psilocybe shrooms contain Baeocystine, 4-Phosphoryloxy-N-methyltryptamine, and yr friend, J.Gartz found 10mg Beaocystine is psychoptic (1992). I've never tried Psilocybe Baeocystis. How differnt between Baeocystine and Norbaeocystine ?

Paul's graph is based on published reports of potencies in scientific journals only. He didn't take into account anecdotal evidence or unpublished tests. This approach limits the data set but has checkable references. A problem with using only published potency data is that very little of it exists. Confounding factors such as age and maturity of specimens can also alter potency results. Many of the early potency tests were done on old stored material, sometimes decades old. If you take all this into account, the graph is still a useful guide.------------------ The Spore Works Exotic Spore Supply sporeworks.com

Also, the graph shows the comparison of maximum reported percentages of psilocybin, psilocin and baeocystin, that does not mean that the average content of all analyzed nushrooms is so high. Therefore this graph is correct but doesn?t give any real information on the average levels of the "good stuff" for each species.[This message has been edited by Anno (edited July 27, 2000).]
