Re: If you saw an animal writhing in pain on the road while you were driving... [Re: drok]

I did that to a baby bird once.  I was sitting outside on a smoke break a few years back and a baby bird fell 40+ feet from the nest and plopped right in front of me.  It was writhing around for a bit and almost got ran over by people's shopping carts, so I just used my work boots and STOMPED it.  It's entire contents flew out from under my foot and splattered against the wall, but he had no more misery.

I smoked a joint afterwards.

A few weeks later, a bird flew into my house, banging against one of the windows. I fed it honey water via a paintbrush and for about half an hour it drank then flew off.

And it was in bad condition, would you go and run it over and put it out of its misery? I think that would be the right thing to do... I would hope anyone in the car with me would support me, too.

ive done it a few times.  i hate seeing animals suffer.  one time when i was on my way out to lakeland, in the middle of nowhere there was a 100+lb boar on the side of the road, still alive, but just barely hanging on, i shot it with my pistol.  theres no running over a 100lb boar.at least not in my car.

It definitely was the humane thing to do. Instantaneous, effective. She was upset because of her guilt for having run it over, but no doubt once home she would have fried a big steak not once thinking about how an animal bigger and as magnificent as the deer was raised in cramped quarters and killed so she would have the meat.

The story behind the meat we eat is much more tragic than a deer who lived life wild and free, getting hit by a car.

You did the right thing.

You gotta admit its a stressful episode for her.

She hits a deer, the poor creature is suffering, she calls out to a stranger, the stranger pulls a gun and gives the writhing deer a point blank headshot in cold blood and now shes alone on a deserted road at night with a stranger with a gun and a deer with no head.

That would've hushed up most people pretty swiftly

I just wish they'd allow for humane treatment of people, Jack
Kevorkian had the right idea, unfortunately the law things we
need to suffer unnecessarily

That would be a really tough decision, but I guess I'd have to kill it.  I used to know a guy, who knew a guy, who had to bludgeon a wounded deer that he found in the woods to death.  That would be really tough.

Here in Holland we have Euthanasia Laws. We have terminal sedation. In fact, this is how my mother died, as you know.

The possibility of Euthanasia, of a humane death to end suffering if one desires one's suffering to end, in my view ought to be a fundamental human right.

Its utterly barbaric, especially in the light of modern medicine's capability to unnaturally extend and prolong suffering, to not have the possibility to end it humanely.

Many people are hooked up to machines that keep them alive, but all they can ever do in their condition is suffer inhumanely.

Its downright barbaric your dog can expect a merciful shot of Euthasol at the very end of the line, but its owner would have his suffering prolonged inhumanely.

ive had to finish a few birds off with shovels or by just stomping on them after they had been mangled by cats, crappy but its gottta be done

we also once got hit by a deer (or we hit it :/) and afterwards it was laying on the ground looking up at us. I couldnt tell if it was in pain but I tried to get out of the car and smash its head in with a rock to put it out of its misery. my friends were like Noooo dude, that thing will fuck you up.. they were probably right, and still give me shit about it to this day (like 8 years later haha)
