It wasn't ANFO, it was AN, but mixed with a liquid explosive. It has a much higher detonation velocity than ANFO, more an explosive than a blasting agent. With ANFO the powder accelerates the combustion of the liquid. With this stuff the liquid accelerates the detonation of the powder.
