When making Gunpowder.

After you mix the compounds you are to mix it with water and alcohol. My question is what kind of alcohol? iso-90? Pure ethanol? Can someone elaborate?

is buying premade gun powder out of the question?

i reload my own ammo but i wouldnt dare to build my own powder.. seems like it would be hard as fuck to gather proper data

Honestly, I'm with rackem. If your intention is to reload, I'd stay the hell away from it. Too much to go wrong.

Especially given you're having to ask about it in the first place. That's something you'd kinda want to know exactly what you're doing.

I dunno that's why I asked, I was curious. Are you just doing this for the hell of it? Do you intend to reload ammo with it? Are you trying to make a bomb without setting off red flags by buying large quantities?

I just stumbled on how to make gunpowder and it interested me. I saw a couple ways to make it but none clarified what to mix with the mix. I might get into gunsmithing as a hobby and/or trade. But mainly, I love to learn. Nothing beats it.

Well I was trying to google around for the answer for you and from what I read, smokeless is a lot more difficult and you may or may not even be able to obtain the required ingredients. I dunno for sure, it was only a preliminary search.

All I found about using alcohol for, for black powder was for the flaking process. Which is unnecessary if you're just doing it for the hell of it. You can make black powder with just the three basic ingredients and a mortar/pestle.

Completely different chemical reaction, every bit as simple. It might be marginally difficult to get one of the three reagents but I doubt any of them are watched. Theyre quite common.

I can see where he's coming from. I like to do shit like that, too. It's fun to experiment and make random shit.

I will never make gun powder, I don't really trust myself with it. As it is, every time I get fireworks I tend to empty them and try to make my own super firecracker. Last one was a big ass pill bottle filled with gun powder. The fuse fucked up though and I wasn't going anywhere near it when it didn't go off.

Why would you pass up on learning a skill? And even if I was underage, it wouldn't matter because I have known plenty of kids who were way more mature than adults. Get a clue.

It is actually completely safe unless it is dried. You don't have to trust yourself. Just the science. And from what I have learned so far, it is pretty sound.
