taking photos at a concert

How the hell do people do this and have them turn out well? My main problem is my photos always turn out dark as fuck unless I lower the shutter speed to mad low in which case I get serious blurring. If I raise the ISO to compensate (i.e. around 1800), the images turn out super grainy. The aperture is max open. If I use the flash, it ruins the lighting completely. Help? I'm using a nikon d5100.

Hmmmmmmmm. The author says that grain is inevitable but a lot of "professional" shots have 0 grain. Photo editing I'm assuming?

I'm generally able to get some pretty good pics at concerts. But I think thats mainly because I'm usually as close as i can possibly get.

A tripod would only really be useful for slow shutter speeds in which case you would get mad blurage between the lighting and the performer(s) moving around.

A flash might work . Or change your setting on your camera
