Re: pet store wood chips for azurescens ?

If you add water to them they should be fine. I would go for woodchips, but if your just using it as a spawn run, it'll work!

Got a link for that, Shaman1? Somebody posted the link and then removed it. What a stupid thing to do.

i am using petstore-woodchips (beech without bark)for azures, cyanes, baeos and all woodloving edibles....works super...i cook the wood for 10 mins and let it sit an hour or so....then cif it...and mix in the bran as supplement...sterilize for 60-90 mins at 15 psi.

BIO,
Are you using the woodchip/bran mix as your initial substrate, or are you innoculating that mix with sawdust/bran cakes? By the way, did you have any other flushes with those indoor azures? If so I would be very interested to see pics.

At most pet store you can get Aspen it works really well. Try and avoid shaveings they are to thin, They will work but take a long time to run through. Also make sure not to use those pine with green shaveings "they have a perseritive in the, also do not use ceader as they are rot and mushroom restant

Oh ya, for maximum saturation saok them for a day or two. it will also cause the spores and such to start to grow. Then you can pressure cook the chips and be realitively sure thay you killed everything.

Those chips, beech without bark, are exactly the ones i'm talking about!
I was plannig on growing the mycelium out on birdseed (that happening right now), then inoculate cardboard, then use the cardboard to inoculate the woodchips.
Will this work? (or at least will i have a chance?)

Hey if you live in the Seattle Pugot Sound area you can purchase a yard for $12.00 at Sawdust Supply next to harbor Island almost downtown Seattle. They have steerco and alder chips and Alder sawdust. A fifty poiund bag is only $4.99 plus tax.

I salt peoples yards for a fee here in Seattle.

You get P. cyanescens mycelium and you pay for your mulch.

Plant in April and May and maybe you will get some nice surprises in the late fall and early winter.

Basset and Western in Woodinville, Washington near Carnation sells a similar product called Fertile Soil. CIf uyou live arround here those are your best bets.

BIO,
Have you had consistent results growing azures with the method you described? I saw the pictures of your indoor fruits....they looked pretty weird. Did you have any more success with additional flushes? I am in the process of trying to come up with an effective strategy for growing azures indoors so the more info you could give the better. Thanks.

Here's a picture of the mycelium running through the birdseed. Growth was kind of slow becasue of the high temperature of the last days here.

The aspen shavings they sell around here (walmart, pet stores etc) comes completely sterile in the bag! They even advertise that on the bag for some reason. They work for azures, and make a nice casing for B+ as well. I would assume the B would like them too.
