Smoking wood chips
    #905392 -

Whats up people! I just wanted to know If the smoking wood chips used for barbecuing such as maple and alder are the same used to cultivate Azures. Also, Is their a certain type of hardwood sawdust needed for the substrate.

Thanks all.

Yes, the chips are great for spawn preparation. Inoculate pasteurized or sterilized chips with grain spawn.

They are a bit expensive though to be used as end substrate.

Any hardwood will work, even soft wood like spruce or douglas fir.

Thanks Anno for the prompt reply!
I was gonna use the tek in the grow/find section. I will be attempting indoor cultivation with a fridge (crisper).

Indoor cultivation...well, as of today, indoor cultivation is still very, very difficult.

If you have the possibility to create an outdoor patch, better prepare masses of spawn over the winter and make a couple of beds in spring. Just my thoughts...

You have no idea how I wish I could have a winter here down south. I would say 2 weeks max out of the year the temp may drop to upper 50s. Mostly in the 60s. I did a temp check and my crisper stays between 53 and 55 degrees F.

Are there any other critical factors that make these so difficult to cultivate indoors?

Thanks,
Anno

They refuse to pin and develop fruitbodies indoors. Mostly.
