The morallity of drug dealing
    #8603639 -

We all have to deal with drug dealers and some of us have probably partaken in the act itself.

Is drug dealing a morally bad thing, or is just due to social conditioning? Does it depend on the drug being dealt, or the situation the dealer themselves are in?

On the other end of the spectrum are drug dealers up there with pharmacies, as retailers of fine medicines and therefore doing a job which is beneficial to the community...

The way I see it is that drug dealing is an exploitation of the current situation; the government is naive enough to not realise how much money can be made and how easily it is to do so. Some drugs do destroy lives (and yes, I know its not the chemical itself its the person), so I personally couldn't bring myself to sell them, but then I would not have any issues selling psychedelics (including cannabis)... However these drugs can bring in serious money (due to the esoteric nature and relative cheapness) at which point these sacraments (at least in my eyes) start to be exploited for the pursuit of wealth (greed).

I'm undecided .... Whats your stance?

my personal stance is:

someone has to provide drugs, whether me or someone else doesnt matter (or the pharma people as you pointed out).

someone will always capitalize off of a prohibited item, whether me or someone else doesnt matter.

the government wants control of both of these things exclusively, so why would i care about the greed of a dealer? his greed is paled in comparison to his governing body.

this is the nature of the beast, and i have no qualms whatsoever in either regard, growing, personal dealing, buying, capitalizing, greed, etc.

but of course one must also understand the dynamics of the drug in question and more importantly the users/dealers of such drugs, so that no suprises arise on any rung of the ladder.

If you're undecided, go to some place like Amsterdam, do you think selling Cannabis there is considered immoral?

There are prescription drugs that destroys your body to heal something else, so pharmaceutical companies are not so different from dealers.

The difference resides in the dosage.

But even then you could swallow all your prescription at once if you're a moron.

don't deal to little kids plain and simple.

18 year old can make their own decisions so selling a controlled substance to them shouldn't bother you one bit.

don't sell to people who look like they are stealing money to buy drugs.

If the prices aren't bumped up much or at all from the original price some one paid for them, I don't find it immoral at all.

It's those stupid assholes that buy an ounce for $70, and then sell cuts for $30 that are immoral. ESPECIALLY the people selling acid for $15 a hit. I pity people who are dumb enough to buy from them.

So there are dealers who are moral, I had a good friend that was arrested recently who was one of the nicest people I knew, and would sell to me for the same prices he got them at half of the time. (he still needed to pay rent and all)

So there are good and bad, you can't lump them all into one category. My friend did it because it made him happy. He found pride in having his weed be the stickiest, and his acid being the strongest. He's a great guy.

I see no ethical difference between a liquor store clerk and a drug dealer, if either one sells to minors that would make them immoral/unethical.

Is selling oranges immoral ?

Is buying oranges and reselling them for profit immoral?

even so, not everyone subscribes to the same system of beliefs that mild altering substances are an action to look down upon and forbid.  Even if you find them to be immoral, that doesn't justify imposing your beliefs on others.

it depends.  some dealers sell fentanyl as heroin and 20 of their customers OD, then thats not being a moral drug dealer.  take care of people and its not wrong, but thats just my opinion.  since, i don't think drugs are wrong

There are a lot of drug dealers that are pieces of shit and probably should be in prison. But as long as there is no violence involved, you are selling what you say are and not dealing to kids, I don't think that there is anything immoral about selling drugs. You are simply providing a product to consenting adults.

I don't think age should matter when you are selling to people. I don't think you should be selling drugs to people you don't know the first thing about anyway, because not only is it risky, you don't know what reactions they could have to what they are being sold. I know 18 year olds who are FAR too immature to try harder, or even softer drugs, and I know some younger ones that are most definitely ready to try them in my mind.

Age indicates absolutely nothing, and I don't see why people continue to see it as an indication of maturity. Some of the dumbest people I know are full grown adults.

When I was 14 I had my first mushroom trip, and that has shaped my life for the better ever since. I got them through a good friend of mine, who was sure of my maturity. If you don't think people age 13-16 can make decisions for themselves, you are kidding yourself. I find that many of them are much more mature in ways than we would like to think. Others their age are most definitely not. You just have to know the individual.

That technically doesnt have anything to do with the morallity of dealing.

I think the responsibility for drug OD's and drug use is placed solely on the person taking it. Drug dealings  no less moral than working at mcdonalds

I see age discrimination as the same as racial discrimination.

Its a result of government morality policing, and simply because it is law does not legitimize it whatsoever.  The working age used to be much younger, but if your 14 years old and want to make money for yourself, your options are limited to raking leaves and shoveling snow.. and guess what, the ever vigilante bureaucrats continue to even crack down on non permit snow shovelings and dish out jail time for this stuff.

A person is old enough to work when he can voluntarily go and finish his work load each day to keep his job. Not an arbitrary date on a calendar selected by some people writing rules on paper.

Similarly, when someone makes the decision to buy drugs, they recognize the item for what it is, and know the dangers associated with it.  If your selling some drugs, of course you have the right to refuse service.. but if this person chooses to buy drugs, a victimless non crime, does he not have that right?

So if other people do it, its ok?

I have no problem with the act of selling drugs, but its the greed that comes with it that bothers me.. and there is a hell of a lot of money in this business. On a good week I could make £300 a day just shotting weed in the evenings...

When its that easy to make money a lot of greed follows, and I have in the past succumb to it .

Dealing drugs is amoral, there is nothing moral or immoral about it. The only difference between it and any other job is that it is illegal.

A drug dealer is nothing more than a retailer. There can be nothing immoral about a transaction between two consenting adults. No one's rights are being violated.

Also, there is nothing immoral about profiting immensely from the sale of something. As long as there is an understanding of the sale (IE: selling fentanyl instead of heroin or RC's instead of LSD; lying about the amount being sold) between the seller and the buyer, there is nothing immoral involved. For many people selling drugs is a job and to do any job with any interest in mind other than being better at your job than you were the day before is idiotic.

It really depends on maturity levels as to your base other then that its no different then working at mcdonalds like said before. Everyone tries to capitalize. A good deal of drug dealers exploit it though. If you sell to just about anyone even if you know them your still not looking too carefully. I've seen people that don't know a thing about what they're trying to purchase.
