Growing With Oven Bags And BRF
    #854800 - 08/31/02 10:17 AM (22 years, 15 days ago)

Okay, I'm about to start with oven bags full of the pf tek.. It's worked for me many times, I just hate having to fill the jars, and I'm never even gonna use them in the cake form, I always case.

On to my question...

Im gonna mix it up and toss it in the oven bag, but thers a lot more that can fit in the oven bag, so I don't think i would need as much water since its all together, as well as vermiculite...

So should i just use the regular recipe for jars or should i cut back on the water content and/or the vermiculite content?

This seems like an ideal way of colonization for people who are just gonna case the thing...

don't cut back on water. I would have just used whole grains. Don't overfill the bags either. you'll want some polyfill. Screw it, just read the tek. otherwise have fun.

Okay well.. This is what I plan on doing, correct me if there's something I should do different. 10 cups Vermiculite. 5 Cups Brown Rice Flour. 1200 Cc's Water. (pf tek for 1/2 pint jar * 20) Mixed thoroughly, fill oven bags about half way full. Use a few plastic zip ties, tie off top, get iron, seal shut with heat. Pressure cook for 90 Minutes at 15 psi. When cooled, I'll stab a 10 cc needle through the bag, innoculate with half the syringe, put tape over the hole. Incubate untill colonized. Crumbled, cased, and put in terrarium.

Sound good? What type of tape should I use? I was thinking duct tape....

BRF doesn't work well in bags, if at all. My friend tried some side by side with birdseed. the BRF gets too clumpy and doesn't mix around well. If you have a PC and are using oven bags, use birdseed.

My friend also tried oven bags back in the day but they were porous and dried out his substrate. They contaminated as well. I recommend spawn bags.
