My kids are getting raised Agoge style. Martial arts, survival, hunting/gathering, music, crafts. They'll no doubt have time to be a kid, but they'll also be well armed against a nation of sheeple raised by Barney.

I already have certain lessons prepared to help with issues like monsters under the bed: Arm my kids with water pistols and teach them room clearing. Every night before bed, they'll have to surprise the monsters into vanishing for the night.

My parents pretty much let me raise myself. It made me fiercely independent, but also allowed me too spend too much time smoking pot.

Right now I'm a stay at home Dad (retired at 24 :woot:), so there isn't really a risk of emotional starvation.

I live in a small town in Indiana. I can go running at 2 am and be greeted by other people walking down the street. If anyone else is even out that late. The most we get is a few bar fights, but it usually ends up with everyone shaking hands. I love small towns. You could never get me to move into a major city, i couldn't stand that many people. I don't go into crowded rooms, i couldn't imagine a crowded street.

Thats sweet man! I teach my son wilderness survival and hunting and gathering as well. I was in karate and kickboxing since i was 8, so im deff going to be putting my boys though classes when i can afford to.

I am mostly a stay at home dad, but i have a night job that i work part time for extra cash.

The way you deal with monsters is a great idea! lol

There's quality cartoons like: Johnny Test, Wayside, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, 6*teen, Ben10, tons of Scooby Doo... Teletoon surely knows good cartoons.

Even I watch them. :grin:

Heh, it's good to see that some people got what I meant. I wasn't talking about emotinally starving your child or raising them to be cold and uncaring. I just see all these completely useless shows (boobah was a good example) and toys and diversions that are teaching kids what? I think they need to be raised as strong-minded independant and MOTIVATED individuals who know they must work for what they want. I think if anything this means mors personal attention and less time in front of the television.

I'd say society in general is pretty lame, and that includes all of you guys and myself at times...you can't not be a hypocrite today unless you're an ignorant asshole. There are so many beautiful and wonderful people out there, individuals and whole communities, but they are vastly overwhelmed by the majority of sheep who have been brainwashed like lemmings to follow the "leader" and as such are in the process of walking off the cliff. I am 20 and know for sure I have so much more life experience than perhaps some bullshit statistic (lets say 90 percent) of the people out there. I'm lacking loads too, but I understand whats going on at least. It is a tragedy and a comedy, so lets laugh and cry, but maybe partake in this unfolding drama with a little less seriousness and more detachment? I love you guys:heart:

I'm not sure if that was sarcasm or not, but growing up stick, rock, and whatever else I could scrounge up in the woods where pretty much all I had. My parents never really bought me toys. Kids tend to be happy with what ever they have, and as a result, I've always been content with what I have. Its probably the reason I'm the only person I know not in debt.

i was raised in a sheltered environment by highly anxious and OCD parents.
now 21, it won't be easy getting used to living on my own out of town.  yay for life lessons.

haha, I was being a little harsh, society, just like women I suppose.

As for the kiddos, I never had "stupid" toys growing up, or video games, now I have real toys that I appreciate the hell out of, like nice mountain bikes and guitars and backpacks. I paid for them all myself too. Yay for the internet, boo on the general state of the world and society though...tsk tsk tsk.
