Hardly baseless, my opinion of his work comes from familarity with it.  I just refuse to argue the point with one of his fans.

Good luck with Ellis and try not to let his teachings block your potential. :wink:

Baseless opinions need not arise out of unfamiliarity.  It is possible to jump to erroneous conclusions when considering ideas intellectually rather than applying them to one's own behavior.  IMO, anyone who had actually applied the ideas proposed first by Epictetus, and expanded upon by Ellis, would recognize that they are key to being able to access our potential as humans.

Anyone who thinks that reason offers a place to hide clearly does not comprehend rationality.  :lol:  True reason and rationality exposes everything.  True rationality does not deny the non-rational experience, but turns a blinding spotlight on irrationality of all kinds.  The flimsy cobwebs of fantasy and wishful thinking are shown for the sticky traps that they are, and the pointless drama of overreaction to the normal aspects of reality becomes as tacky and obvious as the Jerry Springer Show.

What a stupid comment.  Ellis and Epictetus were giants IMO. Your comments to the effect that to continue debate would be fruitless because of Veritas beliefs is a cover for your lack of ability to carry the debate.

Pretty much what I made this post about. You have a certain choice in the procession of your emotions, and hanging onto anger or regret over a situation that cannot be changed is extremely self-destructive, not to mention simply exhausting.

Holding a teaspoonful of hydrochloric acid in your mouth is probably a more apt analogy than the malignant cancer I described, simply because there is a choice in the matter.

Though I would be lying if I said I didn't let it happen every now and again.

Lots of interesting replies here. Thanks, folks. I stand by the ideas of my original post, though the wording would probably change a lot if I wrote it now (after reading through the replies).

I can vouch for this.... 
Found out that a second refund check that I received from a "reputable" company, bounced - pushing my account to the negative....
My bank said last Friday that it had cleared - I made a special trip there to confirm before drawing any money out....    :rolleyes:
Dealing with the incompetent bank people and the company that wrote the bad check all throughout the day struck my anger chord....

Now, I am worn out and exhausted....    :frown:
I need to go find a comedy show to watch or something....
