Fuck the Democrats..
    #8519629 -

Who's to Blame for High Gas Prices?

For several decades, the Democratic Party has pursued policies designed to drive up the cost of petroleum, and therefore gas at the pump. Remarkably, the Democrats don't seem to have taken much of a political hit from the current spike in gas prices. Probably that's because most people don't realize how different the two parties' energy policies have been.

The MSM will never report this but the Republicans should make the fucking Democrats vote every day five times a week against expanding production.

Yes this is well known(though of course you won't hear about it) One of the main issues the democrats said they were going to tackle when they won the majority was gas/oil.  Gas prices have done nothing but gone up since.  And yes i agree McCAIN does suck less.

Yeah, democrats did little of what they said they would do in 2006, and half-assed at that.

Are they opposed to all these things cuz of environmental concerns and such?

This is exactly the kinda shit that prevents me from ever being a democrat.

That's strange. I was under the impression that speculation was driving the cost of gas. Output has not decreased and demand has actually declined for the first time in quite awhile.

There is nothing that leads me to believe that an increased supply of the inelastic good that is crude oil would decrease prices, but you're free to be as delusional as you please.

Maybe if we started expanding production the speculators would take their greed somewhere else!!!

They could, but assuming they would do that is speculation as well. All I know is that it's ridiculous to blame efforts against increasing production for rising prices when we have adequate supplies. It reeks of knee-jerk partisanship and makes you look silly.

Actually, it's a bi-partisan effort.  The Republicans, by insisting on deficit spending and hence inflating the money supply through the issuance of debt created money, along with their interventionist foreign policy and constant saber rattling (echoed by the Democrats) are just as much to blame.

If you support the Republicans, your are just as much to blame as anyone who supports the Democrats.

Quote:
With respect to the world oil price impact, projected ANWR oil production constitutes between 0.4 and 1.2 percent of total world oil consumption in 2030, based on the low and high resource cases, respectively. Consequently, ANWR oil production is not projected to have a large impact on world oil prices.

Quote:
Assuming that world oil markets continue to work as they do today, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could neutralize any potential price impact of ANWR oil production by reducing its oil exports by an equal amount.

Don't you hate it when facts get in the way of your rhetoric?

You say that as if the speculation had anything to do with production whatsoever.  Assume away, lonestar.  Maybe if we increase production ExxonMobil will buy me a Twinkie?  Basing opinion on fact is gauche anyway.

i agree, production should be expanded. here's the problem with what you and other republicans are saying:

1) bush/congress have already leased thousands of acres to big oil companies who are essentially sitting on the reserves to let them build value and inflate the company's stock prices. how does this stimulate production at all?

2) refineries are operating at 40%, mainly due to the big oil companies not re-investing in their infrastructure. should they be allowed to biuld more refinieries? sure, but fix the ones you have now first.

3) speculators are driving the prices up artificially. OPEC has even said there is no reason for the oil to be above $80/barrel. these unregulated foreign oil markets are allowing speculators to invest in oil futures with little to no margins or regulations. this same kind of "laissez faire" attitude about deregulation is what caused the california power crisis, that allowed Enron to rape the california energy market. bush refuses to close these "enron loopholes" because investment banking firms like goldman-sachs make way too much money off these loopholes. does anyone find it strange that nearly every week we hear goldman sachs announcing oil will be $X/barrel, when they themselves are the biggest investor in these oil markets? do the standards of insider trading no longer apply here?

i'm not saying democrats get a free pass, but there's no way you can only blame them when this bullshit was going on way before 2006.

adequate supplies my ass!

go to the library and read a book about supply and demand....

Here's a hint: the price of oil will come down when, and only when, there is more supply than demand.

i predict global demand for oil will continue to rise.

We need to increase the production of American-made oil and gas.

What allowed Enron to rape California was the monumental ignorance of California politicians in signing the contract they did.  That is it.  Has it ever occurred to you that no other state had those problems?

Goldman Sachs does not make too much money any more than anyone else who makes more money than you do does.  You don't like how much money they make?  Beat them.  That being said, G-S doesn't make one cent from me.  Nor does Merril Lynch or Lehman or any other brokerage firm or hedge fund.  They have never seen one penny of my money.  Unless they bought my mortgage, in which case they are welcome to it and thanks for the loan.  I have their money, they don't have mine.  Is G-S a big speculator in oil anyway?  Link?

OPEC talking amounts to nothing.  They will charge what they can get.  They may well be correct and know it, though.  Do you think the Saudis are raising production because of some humanitarian urge?  No, they're increasing production to catch a peak price.  Seems smart to me.  Do you know what else seems smart to me?  Using less in times of peak price.  That seems to be what's happening what with the decline in fat car sales.  Who knew?  The free market knew.  By the way, I believe oil is a freely traded commodity that anyone can speculate in.  Go for it.

When was the last oil well drilled on US territory and why not?  (I purposely phrased it that way)  The environmental loons with their pandering fellow travelers the Dems have essentially forbidden new oil drilling in US territory for decades, not two years.  They have blocked any Republican initiative time after time and used that great democratic institution known as the "Court of Greatest Convenience" to thwart every possible development imaginable for 30 years.  If it costs more in legal fees than you can make why bother?  This is a legacy of Dem Congress control, by the way.  Before 1994 they ran the whole show for a very long time even when they weren't President.

That's not quite true when we're dealing with an inelastic good. We can have billions more barrels of capacity, but as long as gas companies keep selling it for $5.00 a gallon, we'll keep buying it at that price.

What proof do you have that increasing output will lead to lower prices? I'm not talking about theory, but reality.
