recharging desiccant with dehydrator?
    #8463069 -

can silica gel desiccant packs be recharged by putting them in a food dehydrator? if so, i would imagine the highest temp is best? would it be safe to put them in with mushrooms on a lower temp as long as they aren't touching the shrroms? thanks

I know you can do it in the oven, not sure about a dehydrator though as I've never used one.

thanks, anyone else know about dehydrators for these packs?

Why not just use the dehydrator to dry the mushrooms? I'm confused.

the desiccant packs are for storing the shrooms after they have been dried in the dehydrator

Ahh. Surely if it's airtight though, you wouldn't need to "recharge". I can only assume that dehydrating would help to do so.

Although I myself have never personally one this,I'm sure it should work fine

I would have to agree

If you have both why dont you just put some in the dehydrator and come back in here and tell us if it worked or not.
I expect a report in about an hour

Do it! I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. Turn up the temp and let it sit a few hours. The worst that'll happen is blown desiccant everywhere.

whoh whoh whoh,
I just read that the harmonic resonance of most food dehydrators will cause the desiccant to become unstable at the molecular level and could in fact cause a generic type of cold fusion to occur and blow your whole place up.
Stop what you are doing and buy some new desiccant

Indeed. Try it and report. I dont have either so I wanna know about that oven method. Isn't it too hot. And isn't fanning them exposing them to alot of oxygen and degrading the psilocybin or psilocyn?

If he doesn't come back soon its safe to assume that this is what happened :slitwrist::suicide:

i put them in without anything else in the dehydrator, cranked the heat all the way and left them there for several hours. can't say for sure, but they seemed nice and dry to me.

Just FYI, throwing it in the oven for a while would serve the same purpose for anyone without a dehydrator.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I am curious to know the answer to this too.

I usually throw in my desiccant packets in with my mushrooms into the dehydrator together to give them a little recharge as I dry the mushrooms out for long term storage.

Now I am paranoid that they are neutralized by the humidity in the dehydrator ?

Anyone sure of the science on this?

I think sure way to find out is to toss the "recharged" desiccant packs in with the cracker dry mushrooms. If the mushrooms still remain cracker dry after a few days then it worked. I know sometimes when i put in used up desiccant packs the cracker dry mushrooms get soggy the next day.

Just weigh the desiccant before and after the dehydrator. If it loses weight then you can revive it.
