dehydrator advice
    #8029036 - 02/15/08 08:09 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I am making a veg/fruit dehydrator into a desiccant dehydrator and my plan was to put the desiccant in a bin where the element emits from. There is a sort of lid with holes on the side so if water were to fall it would not be one the desiccant. Problem is that the position of this is such that it a lid is over it and a small slit about a half a centimeter tall and encompassing almost the entire top of the side of the area is all that would remain for air exchange from this spot. It may be difficult to make the air exchange around the desiccant. Is this a problem? If so I have another solution but It sux because it's more work.

I wish I had pictures to show you but I can't find the digi cam.

why would you ruin a perfectly good dehydrator?

I'm afraid of heat and want to use a desiccant dehumidifier just like everyone else man. We know heat breaks down psylocibin. besides man I got it from the recycle depot for 2 dollars and it smells funny (like the element is dirty) when I turn it on. Additionally It has no fan so the heat just stagnates. Frankly it'd be best for it to live out it's life as a desiccant dehydrator.

besides I already bought the desiccant and payed way more for it than the dehydrator.

If the fan doesn't work, why are you even bothering to use the dehydrator? Are you hooking up some kind of fan to it or just throwing some desiccant into the dehydrator with the shrooms?

On a side note- "we" don't "know that heat breaks down psilocybin". At least not at reasonably low heat temperatures. I know this is a hotly debated topic that we may never have a definitive answer to. What I do know is that shroom tea made with boiling hot water still produces great trips and the shrooms I dry with my dehydrator at around 95F overnight don't seem to suffer any potency loss.

well boiling water does break down the fibrous tissue of mushies so for all the psylocibin it breaks down if consumed quickly after warming it probibly lets loose more. I know that cause I read it in a real mushroom book. I know the best way to consume is grinded with hot chocolate. But anyway There was no fan in it is what I meant, I basically wanted to make a desiccant chamber and was wondering about the air exchange needed for it around the desiccant.

Well, I can't argue with you if you read that in a real mushroom book now can I?

well it was just something I picked up out of interest before I got into MC but when it was a general interest. Sorry if I can't remember the title for a cite but I can verify that I did read it in a real mushroom cultivation book. When I say real mushroom I meant the non-hallucinogenic variety. The book was big on oyster/shitakai. But I'm off to party. Night shroomoids.
