Questions? spawn whole grains from casing
    #843711 -

first of all, is there a replacement for gypsum in making grain jars? (so the grains all dont stick together) second i want 2 spawn mycilum from my casing on the whole grains. will it work? if yes, dose it take as long to collinize compared 2 using spores?

I see no reason why you couldn't use mycelium from a casing to innoculate a grain jar. However, the risk of contamination is high. I would recommend using a good bit of H2O2 in the jar (say 10mL or so). This has to be done after you PC the grain, though, because supposedly grains have enzymes that break down peroxide. The heat denatures the enzymes, so once you cook it, you're good. I believe this is how people do a grain to grain transfer, so it should work the same way. As far as gypsum, I've never used it, but I use birdseed. Maybe you have to use it for rye. Seems to me as long as you shake the hell out of the jar while it's still hot, you shouldn't have a problem with sticking.

And another thought.... what if i were to re spawn a fresh batch poo with colinized poo? Properly sterilized of corse. skip the whole grain step.

The objective is to get mycellium into the substrate, so yes, the above could work.

You don't have to use gypsum.
It just makes it easier to shake the grain.

You would be better off using 1 jar of colonized grain to spawn other new jars of Rye, than using mycelium from your casing.
much safer!
mush faster than spores!

Grain to grain or bird seed to seed transfers would be safer. Easy as making a sandwich, once you get the hang of it. On second thought, not all sandwich's are easy to get made, if you want to be in the middle .
