destiny, who believes?
    #8450187 -

Our lives are completely written in our destiny, can you believe that?
Feel free to tell me what you think.:)

I've always been a bit intimidated by the idea of 100% self-determination in life (which makes me a great candidate for religion, but I'm trying to avoid such dogmas). That being said, I am even more frightened by the idea of living in a cage.

If there is such a thing as destiny in this world, I won't be looking back on life very happily after my death.
We are destined to be alive. We are also destined to have at least our bodies die some day.

"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society"
Jiddu Krishnamurti

"That's a marvelous structural technique of propaganda... It is only in folk tales, children's stories, and the journals of intellectual opinion that power is used wisely and well to destroy evil. The real world teaches very different lessons, and it takes willful and dedicated ignorance to fail to perceive them.”
Noam Chomsky

IMO, only the broadest strokes of our life are painted for us.  We are born at a particular point in time, in a culture which may or may not suit us, to a family which may or may not nurture and encourage us.  We have specific physical abilities and limitations, we are born an "innie" or an "outie"  (;)), we are close to or far from the societal ideal for attractiveness, etc...

Within these broad strokes, we are able to make our own choices.  These choices are likely to be influenced by the aspects I've detailed above, but this does not mean that they are determined by them.

What truly determines our individual choices are our beliefs about what the "broad strokes" mean about us, about our capabilities, about our potential, about our opportunities. Those who choose to believe that they cannot make choices which deviate from or defy their background will appear to have been "destined" to live that way.  Those who choose to deviate and question and defy the influence of their background will design their own lives.

I see life as more of an essay-style question.

I really like your thoughts here. The special gift that all of us receive at birth is the ability to reason and think creatively. We can make our own choices as to what we believe about life and ourselves, and this leads to what we choose to do with our lives. I think that in this sense, we write our own destinies. I'm sure some people who have done great things with their lives would say "I was destined to be this way" or "I was destined to invent this". Its not that this future was pre-made for them, it was the fact that they were so connected to their beliefs about the world that they became completely committed to their goals.

Anyone can be destined to do or be anything, you just have to believe in it strongly enough.

Listen up! It doesn't matter a lick if what you propose is true or not.

Amen.

Of course we are totally determined beings. We are conditioned by countless causes, and are solely a product of that conditioning. There is no being separate from that conditioning that can choose to shut down its conditioning and pursue an unexpected course of action. The very choosing is totally conditioned.

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

How did the mystic mofo ascended to mystical land ? Or how, or why does one choose to drop ? And once it's well passed your blood-brain barrier, or once you're riding the buddha-bus, you don't make many more choices don't you ? "Riding the wave", it has you by your brain's balls, its finger deep in your eye, and if you're into this, the third one that is.

No destiny but no free will either. There's no structure in the known verse who might ever tell you if it could have been otherwise. Yet the ego is the cart in front of the horse.

'How did the mystic mofo ascended to mystical land ?'

Phase transiting after crossing the red and blue wires.

'Or how, or why does one choose to drop ?'

To get that guy out of the way, for good.

And once it's well passed your blood-brain barrier, or once you're riding the buddha-bus, you don't make many more choices don't you ?

I told that guy, 'let me out at the Crossroads church.'
His driving was too nonchalant and circular.
I was like where is this BLOOD jigga??  Shit, I'm not a bonesman am I.
Fuck.

Screaming feed me here
Fill me up again
I'm temporarily
Pacifying

Feed me here
Fill me up again
I'm temporarily
Pacifying this hungering

"Riding the wave", it has you by your brain's balls, uts finger deep in your eye, and if you're into this, the third one that is.'

I feel that this is where faith comes in to play...  In yourself.
Not everybody can walk right up to death then say 'take me' for life's higher purpose.
I know that there is a sequence that unfolds...  You live out a waking death drama.
You are the Christ.  In the tomb for three days.  Then...  Ascension.  Believe it.

Fuckin Hocus Pocus bitches.

I am not a gear in a deterministic machine. I am the monkey wrench.

No free will?? How??

Fixed that for you  It's not about determinism vs. non-determinism, it's just that there's no one really driving you know.

I believe that a zygote is destined to become an embryo (or whichever way it goes, lol) but as for how our lives turn out, no, I do not believe in destiny but I believe some people are more likely to do certan things than other people.

To believe that everything is "predetermined" would take a determiner.

But either way, seems to me life is a complex chain reaction, and we're a part of it.

On the inside, looking in.

It's my destiny to use my will power, and whatever happens is what happens.

It becomes obvious, when looking at the past.

Is this a daisy chain we have here?

Our lives are neither completely determined nor completely free. However, each case depends upon definitions.

Our wills are free with limits.
