This is the stuff they already used to grow mushrooms. It would be like using old cakes as a substraight. It already has the life sucked out of it. Using it as a casing material is an interesting idea though.

I had the exact same shit your talking about. Picked it up at Home Depot. I wasted 2 perfectly healthy cakes with that shit. It doesn't work. Listen to ARIES he knows. It is spent substrate. The shit that commercial mushroom producers throw away when the mushrooms stop fruiting. It is also very unsterile and contaminates quickly. Don't waste your time with it.

HomeDepot also sells bags of manure - anyone tried those out for substrate?

One again this is "spent" material. To bring it into our world what you are buying the equivalent of a bag of "PF-Cakes after they have finished their last flushes" and you are trying to grow shrooms on this?

Mushroom compost takes from about a week to many weeks to manufacture and is almost an art and science to itself. Once created it is normally used immediately and if has to be stored is usually viable for 6 days. Once commercial agaricus have eaten it, shroomed, the left over turds are put in bags and sold to your local home depot / growers mart for people that want to put it on their plants.

Homestead books www.homesteadbook.com sells useful compost. It's not on their site that I could find, but I just got an e-mail saying they will sell it at $10 for 4 pounds. It is the same stuff they sell in their kit.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
