dont be such a cheap ass 12lbs is more than you think...if your scared heres a cake resipe for his compost...3 cups compost-2 cups verm-10tbl spoons BRF-3 cups H2O...thats enough for 10-12 nice airy 1/2p cakes...the best of both worlds easy and productive...best bang for the buck i have seen...help support mycota's venture...the more he sells now the cheaper it will be in the long run. :wink:

Thank you for the links SixTago, but half of them refer to a different kind of composting, not the "mushroom substrate production " composting.
One can?t stress enough that these are 2 different kinds of things.

...oh i understand that anno, i was alluding more to the process itself (or one of them), and how nurturing a healthy "generational" compost (using whatever rawmateriel you prefer, for mushrooms as well as vegetables) is something worth trying if yr environment allows it... though eggshells and oystershells (high in calcium) are not something you want in yr mushroom substrate... i can see how i might not have illustrated that as well as i could have (making myself a bit more clear in this compost/manure matter)..... so i humbly apologize......

  One needs to be cautious when obtaining compost from equine farms. In my experience the really well tended horses (race horses and/or pampered horses) have too much sawdust and woodchips in the mix to make them well suited for Ps. cubensis.  Would work well for wood decomposeres, but not cubies. 
  But there are plenty of not so well tended horses out there.  :smile:

IDontGrow, is that blend of verm and compost what you use? Do you use Mycotapro compost? Why not just use straight compost?
