I'm on a ranting spree!

Money is very frustrating. First, because it's completely worthless and materialistic goods are, well, not the most important thing in life. That's not my point.

I live in my parent's basement. I'm going to be a junior in college next semester and I'm getting tired of living there. I use my parent's car, ergo, if I move out I'm going to have to either A.) buy my own car and pay for insurance ($$$) or B.) get used to the bus system. I've got two jobs, one during the day that pays $7.50/hr and they only give me 10 hr/wk max and another during 3rd shift paying $9/hr where I work around 20 hr/wk.

The story thickens: I have a three-year-old daughter. She throws a delightful wrench in the gears. I'm looking to get a two-bedroom apartment, one room for each of us (or, at least, this would be preferable--I guess we could get one bedroom, but that'd not be fun). 2-bedrooms cost more than 1-bedroom, obviously. Also, I'd prefer to have a car/insurance because it'd make it easy to transport my daughter to daycare and such, and during the cold winter months I'd feel bad having her wait for the bus in the snow :sad:.

However, it'd be tough paying for a vehicle, insurance, rent, training-pants and other small commodities on my two jobs. I've already concluded that I'm going to have to get food stamps to pay for our food--I'm a humble person so that doesn't really bother me.

The most irritating part of all: my daughter's mother is working full-time, got married with a full-time working husband and they have their happy little apartment where they're budding a little family (she's pregnant with his kid, too). However, she's not going to college, I am! :crankey:

Therefore, I'm the bum dad who either lives in his parent's house driving his parent's car eating his parent's food, or the bum dad without a car, using the bus to get his kid to daycare buying dinner with foodstamps and being relatively poor.

I wish some kind of grant or something could be given to working dads going to college. Sorry for the rant. I'm working pretty hard and any night I don't work, I watch my daughter. I guess I'm looking for sympathy or something--or attention... now I feel bad posting this.

Oh well, ob-la-di-ob-la-da. I've got a pretty daughter and I'll eventually get somewhere and I enjoy little pleasures. Life's not that bad.  :heart:

You are entitled to more financial aide if you have a kid, and more likely to get a loan.

simple solution... tight budget, get one job that gives you full
time hours and decent pay, remain at your parents for a while
longer, have them help you bank as much cash as possible, in a
couple of years buy land and a car, pay cash for both, a couple
acres is sufficient. save more and place a down payment on a
mobile home, move in, live happy with a lower overall payment

do not include your land as collateral in any loans for housing,
mobile homes can easily be moved if you default on the loan, in
the event of defaulting you're still responsible for the remainder
of the loan and you've lost your land

your in school.  from what i've seen, most college kids are broke unless they come from a wealthy family.

im 24 years old and i live with my dad.  i only make $1500/month.  haven't had a girlfriend in years...let alone been on a date in years.  im not fat either.  :frown:

your schooling will pay off.  id say, stay at your parents, finish school, do well raising your daughter, and try and be happy for the ex.  :shrug:

I hope your major in college is something that you can quickly find a job in after graduation and make a decent living on.

Your plight sounds pretty rough but you seem like a good man. Your love for your daughter should help you get through your struggle without completely losing it. You're living a humble yet noble life and thats not an easy life, but I admire you for it. Just keep working towards a comfortable life for you and your daughter.

I think you're gonna make it.
