dessicant setup

I've got a tupperware container and some DAMP RID (calcium chloride pellets) and some mushrooms.
I fan dried the mushrooms for a long time, so now they _look_ dry, but many are still kinda soft and flexible (I live in the south and the humidity is always high).
Here is my dessicant set-up:
i put damp rid on the bottom of the tupperware (a little more than enough to cover the bottom surface), then i put 3 layers of paper towels on top of the damp rid, then i put my shrooms on top of the paper towels... Is this a good set up? someone on the msg board suggested it, but i think the paper towels will get soaked? i need to dry fast, my shrooms are rotting i hate the humidity here

Fan dry first, then put in jar. Should be cracker dry in 24 hours.
I've noticed that when I put more fan dry mushrooms in with the already cracker dry shrooms, the cracker dry shrooms will soften a little sometimes before going cracker dry again.
2 sock jars may work better, one for drying, and one for long term storage. I mean, you already have an odd sock anyway.
And for God's sake use a clean sock!

Hey baby hitler are you sure Moe didnt come up with that? Im sure i saw a post from him describing a jar/sock idea like that....
Dessicant setups dont have to be all the same, or complex. I just put dessicant(epsom salt actually) in one side of my chamber and the mushrooms on the other. They dont touch eachother so its fine!

I put my dessicant in the bottom of a Rubbermade and set a wire mesh letter holder that I got at Wally world over the dessicant, upside down. The letter tray holds the shrooms off of the dessicant and they dry pretty quick.

I've never gotten the "slime" matts describes above. Maybe because I pre-dry in the dehydrator. The desiccant seems to pull the moisture out of everything .
The sock jar is a really good idea if you don't have too many to dry.

I was always under in the impression that it was better to have to airspace below the damp-rid as well. This gives the slime a place to go and lets the damp-rid do its job better. Also, putting your shrooms right on top of the damp-rid lets them soak up the slime, making them wet, which is exactly the opposite of what you're trying to do.
