Desiccant Setup?
    #1073988 - 11/21/02 03:54 PM (14 years, 22 days ago)

I bought a set of 2 DampRid containers. Both are tupperware shaped. Looks like plastic flower pot, very small.

My question is, how can I use these without using a wire screen of any sort?

The container has two levels, one for the excess water, and one for the desiccant, can I just lay the mushrooms on the desiccant?

dont lay the mushrooms directly on the dessicent!!! youll have a disgusttting chemical taste. Im not sure how ur going to get around using at least 1 wire screen. But hey..maybe im wrong.

you can put the damprid on the bottom part, and the mushies in the cup. If it is closed, there isn't enough water in the musrooms to need the extra space, the damprid will just clump.

I think it would be ok if you dump all of the damp rid into a container, putting paper towels over them, and then putting your shrooms on the paper towels...

Agreed. I use paper towels under my dessicant, then place my babies on a piece of screen (cut to size) about an inch above the dessicant. The paper towels make the dessicant last longer, since a lot of the moisure seeps into the towels, instead of clumping the damprid. I just dump the dessicant from the old (wet and gooey now) paper towels, onto new ones and place back in chamber. They dry fast, I use very little dessicant (I only use a little each time I change paper towels - some of it sticks to the gooey paper) and it's very low maintenance.

I don't really know anyone who grows mushrooms. I just come here for fun.
