I don't quite understand why the alleged populists here have a problem with removing a regressive tax. Rich people don't give a shit how much gas costs, it only fucks the middle guy. Maybe they're not quite the populists they say they are. Maybe they just want all of your money handed over for proper disbursement by the Comintern.

I wouldn't mind it if he had proposed another source of revenue- an increase in income tax or on automotive luxury items for instance. But money doesn't magically appear into existence and removing one tax without increasing any others, especially during a time of national debt, is grossly irresponsible.

How about, just a theoretical here, stop funding bikeways in Kansas City? Or the museum of the proctologist in seboygan?
Don't make up the revenue, decrease the bullshit spending.

Are these hypotheticals or actual budget items? In any case, bike lanes are definitely worth the money- they encourage cycling, which saves us all money and reduce bicycling related injuries and fatalities. Also, bike friendly cities are a pretty big draw for educated professionals which helps enrich the city. Or maybe we could stop being a bunch of cheapskates and realize that you can't cut taxes every time a politician gets elected and still have a functioning government?

I'm certain there are all kinds of wonderful things that the federal government could take people's money for. I see no reason why they should, or that they even have the right to.

I agree, I also like bike lanes on well traveled routes. I don't think the federal government should tax or pay for it though. If we decreased federal taxes, states and localities would have more money, if they so choose, to build this shit, instead of supporting military and other natianal wastes of money (in degree not principle).


I don't think we should suspend the gas tax temporarily. It has a useful negative influence on people's worthless driving and purchasing. I don't think this is a valid governmental concern, but it is useful.

I would support in theory a repeal of the tax, however; I don't think we shoul get temporary reprieves. This will just have a further unsettling effect when the tax is reinstated.

Pretty much I don't think any taxes should be cut until we get our deficit and debt under control.

Any tax cut, further, should be due to an excess of funds or the elimination of a program of equal value, and temporary measures are bullshit. Lets set an even playing field for people and commerce that doesn't change every few months.
