My experience with WeretheShit's Basic Sub.....
    #8198972 -

First off, I would like to thank geokills  for the hookup, as he gave me a free sample, via WereTheShit. I would have liked to supplement this experience with pictures...however...I m experiencing some tech problems....

Well here is my observations:

1. No filter Patch...however, the product did seem to keep well for about 2-4 days after opening it...

2. Correct moisture content. The first thing that I did was give each handful a decent squeeze...just the right moisture content.

3. I personally think that there is a little more straw then necessary. This is my personal opinion...
(comparing it to current and past vendors)
I believe the straw to poo content was about 70/30.

4. I spawned 4 1/2 pint BRF jars (old School!)
of a mushroom strain coming from South America,
to about 2 1/2 pounds of said substrate
( I like quick colonization times) about two days ago......as of today, with a quick peak, colonization seems to be taking hold.

5. There is a good smell to the substrate....it does smell earthy with no ammonia......

Well thats all that I have so far....but I will update this....hopefully with some colonization pics.

My overall impression is that this is a very decently priced substrate....for decent results....beggars cant be choosers, and with the lack of vendors supplying this product....I believe they should be an asset here.

Woo doggies, I'd like to hear how this turns out. I wanna try Weretheshit's NutriBoom in my first monotub so your results will probably help me out a lot.

glad to hear some reviews coming out. Although they have been slow, we've had a lot of happy, and repeat new customers.

Our ratio of straw to poo is a little more poo than 60/40

When mixed, 2 units go into each bag that will be pasteurized.

The recipie is...

5 gallons of straw
4 gallons of poo
3 quarts of vermiculite

One reason our substrate may look lighter in color is because we use naturally composted horse manure, that is a beige color.

Thanks, I cant wait to see the results,

~WTS

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I had a question about your substrate mixes, WTS. You said you mix in 3 qts of verm, so how necessary is a casing layer with a tray or tub or whatever? I don't know how well it would maintain humidity at the top of the mix if the verm (and peat) themselves weren't on the top of the mix. What do you think?

i would always suggest using a casing layer.

although i dont really understand the rest of your question.

Casing layers aren't even necessary, when you get right down to it. Just with things like monotubs they keep the moisture levels right, especially at the level right where the pins emerge. Here is where my question came in: since you have verm mixed in, I was curious as to whether or not it would mimic the results of having the verm ON TOP (as opposed to MIXED IN, the way you have it).

And my post shouldn't be deleted, Wronguy. WTS came out and said in his post what his recipe is, and this is a thread based on WTS' products. It couldn't be any more relevant. I'll bet a reader in the future could stumble upon that post and wonder "Hey, he mixes the verm right in bulk substrate...that's different. I wonder what that'll do?" He can post his results slightly farther down the page than he would have had you left it. Over-moderation.

the verm in our substrate is for extra moisture retention, and has nothing to do with a casing layer. Adding verm to bulk substrate is actually a pretty common thing.

casing layers do far more than provide an adequate moisture level for pin initiation. They create a barrier for contaminants, help to regulate PH levels, and provide extra moisture for larger fruits.

In a monotub you may not need a casing layer, especially on straight 100% poo, but good luck trying to keep mean green out on your succesive flushes without a pH buffer.

I didn't see this post until today, so I'll respond now. This thread was started by SirTripAlot regarding the results of a product he received from one of our vendors. The entire point of this thread is to report the results, period. This is not your queue to hijack the thread with questions that should be presented to the vendor directly.

If you have something specific to bring into the discussion like "What are your thoughts on the results so far? Did you find the verm mixed in mimicked the results of the verm on top?", than you're free to do so. You simply came in here and started to veer the topic your way in an effort to get your question answered. This topic was NOT started by WTS, it was started by a person kind enough to give a review of their product. Your question should either be directed at the original poster or to the other party via PM or starting a new thread.

Here is your question following WTS' response to SirTripAlot:

Over moderation? I don't think so. I can't stand it when I have to wade through posts to find out where the thread went off topic to the original intent because someone interjected a question that derailed the entire point of the thread. It is our job as moderators to keep threads on track and enforce rules where applicable.

You completely ignored my post deletion and reposted your question anyway. You could have handled this differently by sending me a PM, but you chose the latter. Because of this action I will be issuing a warning to you. Again, had you come to me directly I would have had a opportunity to explain my actions and suggest a different course for you to take.

I do not like doing this, but ignoring action by a moderator is not to be taken lightly and will be enforced with administrative action.

I'm doing a tub of 70% nutri-boom 30% coir/coffee right now so we'll see maybe I'll be adding my own customer reviews soon. (Hopefully no drama included)
