Hey... I got this stuff from Petsmart in the reptile section called Reptile Bed - expandable substrate. It is a compressed brick of what I though was coco coir but I am not sure...the label doesn't say anything about what it is or where it comes from, but it has a picture of a happy lizard standing on the forest floor. heh (This stuff is supposed to act like a forest floor) Does anyone have any experience using this particular substrate for casing?

i would just suggest knowing what you buy next time. if youre looking for coco coir, go find some and buy it. try it but who knows what will happen if you cant even determine whats in it.

I think I know what you're talking about, check the texture of that material...I suspect it is chunky. When you hydrate that brick, it will not turn into 'crumby chocolate cake' but will stay in the big chunks [about an inch or so if I remember right]. In addition to shitty texture, that stuff appears to be inoculated with trichoderma. Again, this is assuming it's the same stuff I found in a pet store awhile back. Don't try it out on substrate you don't want to lose.

Hey a friend bought a brick of it after e-mailing t-rex. Is it t-rex brand? If so it is coco coir so fret not. This was the response to asking what it was made of. - www.t-rexproducts.com ------------------------------------- Thank you for your E-mail. Our Forest Bed is made from coconut husk, ground up. Sterilize it before you use it. That shit is loaded with trich (aka green mold).

>>Naturebed natural reptile bedding just add water and nature does the rest. covers enough area for a 40 gallon terrarium. I have that...and it works good. Boil your water and add the stuff...pretty good:) Yeah that's it Ralphster.. How long should I boil it for? Or just let it soak and expand? Is it loaded with trich as stated previously?
