mushrooms as potent as azures, grow as fast as cubensis and are 50grams each! :o

What I meant was these would be extremely valuable in terms of a cultivated mushroom species. More potent than cubensis, yet quicker growing than azurescens. Substrate would probably be straw or other cellulose waste I would immagine.

ok I have agreat idea for a more potent than cube, but faster growing than azure solution for the online mushroom community. i'll call it code name "pan cyan" I mean serously do you need something more potent than a cube? well then we already have pan cyans that are very easy to cultivate. besides the fact that cubes are potent enough for any layperson and that if you want a little more kick you could easily produce a pound of cubes and do a psilocybin or psilocin extraction and have near pure crystals.

but aside all of that nay saying. are you fucking serious that you think the people shooting the idea are really stalling the development of a hybrid. basicly you're talking out of your ass about some quest for a holy grail potent/ easy to cultivate mushroom and asking for advice on how to do it in a popular mushroom cultivation forum. you have shown that you are unable to even begin the rudimentary aqusition of information to start the process. I mean really what reasearcher with the means to do what you wish could be done would start off asking in the shroomery advanced forum. I'm sorry, but if you can't navigate your way through a search engine then you surely are not the one one that will be bringing us a true azure/cube hybrid.

Isn't it possible to cross cubensis with azurescens via somatic fusion?

we have to remember here that these species aren't light years away in terms of genetics - they are both fungi; and ulthough azurescens is a primary decomposer and a wood lover, cubensis is also a primary decomposer. Both will grow well on rye grain. Haven't you ever seen apples crossed with pears? two VERY distinct fruits which gave rise to a third fruit which is both profitable and enjoyable. (called a chinese apple; very nice indeed.)

What does anyone know about rattlesnake venom for somatic fusion? Or other methods?

Thanks,

Thomas

Fungi share more genetics with humans than with plants.

Uh... yes? Ok. moving on...

OH YEA!! I forgot I can search teh internetz!!!! IM GONNA GO DO THAT NOW!!!

Seriously, get off my thread you peabrained moron. Sometimes some things cannot be searched; Hve you ever waded through swaithes of scientific literature?
Sometimes the best approach is to ASK peope who know what they're doing. RogerRabbit, for example. Who i've now spoken to and this project has taken a different direction. I was mearly canvasing for information AS PART OF MY RESEARCH. You view everything from the bottom up and then wonder why you can't see the rest of my efforts. Well guess what? Its because you sit on shroomery and because you don't occupy 99.99% of the internet. Man, you must have a crap life. You sit on shroomery flaming people because you don't like the idea of even discussing something new or different. I thought of this idea, and you are jealous and or have some problem with discussing the probability of it. If you were a true scientist you'd leave some comment along the lines of 'neigh on impossible in my opinion, but go ahead and try'. But instead you leave a paragraph of personal insult and non-constructive criticism. If you don't think its possible? Say so politely and shut the fuck up.

Guess what too, theres an expression for this :

DARE TO DREAM.

*sigh* After all that,
does anyone have any ideas? I am searching for a different reagent (perhaps the active principle) from snake venom. If I can find it, i'll definately tell shroomery about it.

I don't think you'll have any luck with that search. I believe that the active components of rattlesnake venom are proteases (proteins) that chew up proteins one amino acid at a time. When bitten, these proteases act on the membrane-bound proteins in your cells, effectively removing them from the cellular membrane and leaving behind a cell with countless holes that allow the innards to flow out. The result: your tissue turns to mush.

This is why the venom is sold lyophilized (freeze-dried) and stored at -20C. This is the only way to store proteins and keep them stable. Add it to the hot agar and it immediately begins breaking down, and I'm sure within a day or two at incubation temps, or even room temps, all of the proteolytic activity is lost.

At low enough concentrations, such as in the agar, the low amount of activity may not kill the cells but will definitely weaken membrane stability. Or maybe only a fraction of the cells fall victim and leave their genetic material exposed and up for grabs. I'm not sure if anyone positively knows the mechanism for the genetic exchange, but it sure would be neat to find out.

The world has been working along time to get to this point in developmental evolution, its best not to just blindly mess with the system.Trying to whip up a franken shroom at home is a perfect example of blindly poking in the dark, who knows what affect it will have 50 or 100 years from now ,you want to be remembered as the one responsible for the extinction of mushrooms........let us all die of a natural plauge ,not the home brewed franken project.
Do not get me wrong ,exsperimentation is vital, but thats why its usually confined to the lab setting.

I feel you man! But creating something from two harmless similar species is not that dangerous. If you were to start trying to genetically modify amanita verosa with a psilocybe I would say you are doing something dangerous. We are nature and anything we do with nature is still natural. The end result to everything we do,"Is evolution in itself", even if we have to fix our errors. But I fully understand when you say "Why can't we be satisfied with what we got". Many things that nature has provided for us are not fully understood and we should be a little more cautious with how we proceed. Still just my opinion though!

Seriously dude, I don't think you have to worry about people releasing genetically modified mushrooms into the wild. First of all, GM Crops covered that and it is an active issue. The way its been solved at the moment is to GM the crop not to produce pollen, which travels.

Secondly, I don't think you ever have to worry about 'home splicing kits' - EVER. seriously, it isn't easy.

thirdly: That liger is a natural product of a tiger and a lion, which are pretty much related. It doesn't have any diseases.

Who's to say that we arn't going to be worse off if we don't.  By not pushing limits, not trying new things, even not blindly mixing all sorts of stuff together and seeing if something happens we may doom ourselves to a much worse fate.  In fact that is what got human kind to be what it is in the first place.

This always is in the eye of the beholder.
Sure the human race has developed techniques to find a level of easily achieved live-maintenance, which is caused by it's ability to "objectively" examine certain things, though this doesn't necessarily mean we're "in first place" on this planet.
A part of our race doesn't really have to worry about how to survive the day, but the biggest part, is not able to take care of itself anymore, because most of us lost the ability to survive on our own.

I think it isn't something to be proud of to be some kind of "retarded" in concerns of surviving without the backup of the work of generations before us.

Not to mention the general loss of spirituality and respect.
Most humans are highly narcissistic, never considering the unavoidable fact that they will die one day.

What made us so much more successful in concerns of reproducing in my opinion, isn't really the fact that we have are so keen, but more the fact that we are so ruthless.

Don't get me wrong, I think the human race is something wonderful, just as everything else on this planet and we can consider ourselves lucky to inhibit the potential for great things, that we are actually able to create, but it's a shame what we seek do with this ability most of the time.

I just want to raise the questions that do not get asked or overlooked.
I do know that every time you cross breed /in breed/etc breed ,it lowers the natural immunity to disease in almost anything alive.

Everyone always wants to make a strain that's faster growing, or more potent. But you know what I want? A transgenic strain that is resistant to an antifungal agent. So we could mix it in with our substrate and kill trichoderma and cobweb without harming our mycelium.

Oh and an antibiotic to kill bacteria so that we wouldn't even have to PC grains. Hell yeah, bitches.

You would probably get farther looking for a practical route of application than by arguing about it. Even if you are successful, it doesn't mean that you will get exactly what you are after though. You might just create a mushroom with the potency of a cubie which grows on wood and is a bitch to cultivate. You would probably be better off just trying to cultivate azures or another non cubie spp. Also I saw some one talking about strange mating practices being related to HIV. There is more evidence to suggest that it was created by early small pox vaccination efforts. Some one else said that there weren't any diseases related to that tiger lion cross. Really no diseases what so ever? That's one hell of an accomplishment. Anyways don't lose sight of wanting to challenge boundaries, just be realistic.
