baby Peyotes :)
    #820657 - 08/16/02 01:24 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Here are a few babys from seeds which were planted about a week ago.

9 were planted, three have poked up. Hopefully more will follow shortly! Another tray with about ten was started today. I cant wait to see all of the siblings living together. It?ll be fun to name them all. Hopefully they will be around for many decades!

What the hell are you growing those in? Thats a really odd looking soil, seems to have a shitload of vermiculite. I hope thats not all it is... Also, its generally not a good idea to grow cacti in plastic containers. That one looks like a tupperware type container, which means it probably has no drainage holes. Be careful to watch for any signs of rot or damping off. Might be smart to preventatively dribble a little bit of sulfur based fungicide on the babies now just to be safe.

Even if theyre not in optimal conditions now, dont try to transplant them until theyre much bigger or you could damage their roots. Leave them where they are unless theres an absolute emergency. Just make sure they have good airflow and good light and they should get by until theyre old enough to transplant.

Well I don't know about Law in Bulgaria, but in many other places they can be bought except for the US, so do some investigating around your flower/cactus shops and see what you can find.

Thanks guys. The plastic tray has a bunch of holes poked in the bottom for drainage. The soil is equal parts fine sand (washed), perlite, vermiculite, and cactus mix (seems to be peat based). It was soaked, and nuked, and allowed to drain and cool overnight. Then the seeds were barely pressed into the soil with a pen-cap.

So you think I should spray them with a sulfur based fungucide? any recommended in particular? How much of a concern is rot? Anything else I should be cautious about? Any other recommendations? I really hope to have them outlive me!

I can't imagine much is illegal in Bulgaria, or at least enforced. I was there at the end of june for a week and a half(Sofia and 2 cities around the black sea). They don't seem to pay attention to little things like "laws".

I don't know what its like in bulgaria, but although peyote is legal here in the UK, places don't tend to sell it, either because of its magic powers or because it takes so long to grow.

It was very interesting. Yes, lots of beautiful girls, and great night life, especially along the black sea. Thank god I was hanging out with rich people over there, otherwise it would have sucked royally. How old are you, perhaps you know some of the people I was hanging out with?
