Clinton Leads Obama by 26 points
    #8165936 - 03/19/08 12:18 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

After a week filled with bad news for the Obama campaign, Hillary Clinton is out to a 56-30 lead in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary.

Clinton is aided in large part by a 46 point margin over Obama with female voters, 66-20. She leads with men as well although by a considerably tighter margin of 45-41.

“The big story in the Presidential race over the last week has been the comments of Barack Obama’s pastor about America,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “It appears this issue has hurt him a good deal with likely primary voters in Pennsylvania.”

She's gonna have to win by margins like that in EVERY remaining state, and likely it still wont be enough to get her to secure the nomination. Since super tuesday, Obama has gotten 47 superdelegates. Clinton has lost 7. I really see absolutely no way that Clinton wins the nomination. She'd have to win all of the remaining state by 65% or so, and that is EXTREMELY unlikely (as North Carolina is next, and then Indiana, two states that seem to be pretty secure for Obama.). After that, she would have to get at least half of the superdelegates (hard, because she has not only not been getting half of the superdelegates lately, but she has LOST 7). If she does not win the remainder and Obama leads her by 100 delegates or so, then she will need much more than half of the remaining superdelegates. I don't see that happening, not at all.

The poll you are referring to happened at the peak of the Obama pastor controversy, and there are no polls since then (especially after the speech yesterday). The poll you are referring to was not from one of the "big boys" and had only 590 or so people being questioned. A poll taken concurrently, Quinnipiac, suggests Clinton only leads by 12 points in Pennsylvania. There is still a month before the pennsylvania primary, though, and I caution you to recall what Obama was polling in Ohio and Texas 1 month before the elections there happened. Things were looking absolutely dismal for him in these two states. In the end, he closed the gap in Ohio, and won in Texas (according to delegates, at least).

Who cares? He's ahead in delegates and will still be when the convention rolls around. Barack Obama is going to be the next president of the United States

At this point, the only hope Clinton to win the nomination has is if Obama is proven to be totally unelectable, in which case she will be favored by the super-delegates.

This is probably why this shit with Wright comes up now - it certainly would at some point, anyway, and it is a sound test of Obama's electibility.

Clinton would rather win the nomination (obviously), and Republicans fear Obama not because he is both inspiring and less beholden to the special interests that rule both parties - not only does he have real chance of winning the general election, but he has a chance of being an effective agent of change. The Republicans are trying to abort a potential Democratic Reagan.

Its actually a good thing that this came out so early. Some even are suggesting that people supporting Obama knew that McCain and Hillary were holding on to these clips, so they released it themselves. Now that its out WAY ahead of the Penn. primary, there is plenty of time to take back the narrative. Furthermore, because it came out during the democratic nomination process, the issue will probably be over before the DNC comes, and at least many people will have found closure on the issue. This way, McCain cannot re-open that wound without appearing very negative and divisive.
