The guy who brought us 2001: A Space Odyssey, communication satellites and space elevators (well not quite yet). Died this morning, age 90 :sad:

All he is known for TO YOU may be 2001, but to science fiction aficionados he is known as one of the greatest authors of the 21st century.

for those of you who dont know, 2001: Odyssey has three sequels set in 2010, 2061 and 3001. They're all worth reading.
