Clark foam closes doors...

Any of you coastal people out there-take good care of yer surfboards because they just doubled in price.  The maker of the about 70% of the worlds foam blanks for surfboards just closed his doors, citing pending fines for violations from the EPA as the cause.  A lot of people are out of work today because of this.  Merry Christmas:thumbdown:...

definitely sad... our local shaper was making 100 grand a year shaping surfboards for all the local riders... he worked when he wanted to and surfed all the rest of the time. Now what's he going to do? Get a job?!

Really shitty situation, a whole lot of people suddenly don't know how they're going to pay next months rent :thumbsdown:

A few people have been pointing out the ironic fact that Al Merrick and Rusty both just recently moved their major boardmaking operations to China. Prior knowledge, perhaps? Shitty :thumbsdown:

Hmm...I'm thinking that maybe Mr. Clark was trying to sell his company and not getting what he wanted for it so he closed his doors, showing the industry what it'd be like without him.
A friend of mine read that the EPA said the violations were minor, like some chemicals weren't being stored properly or something that was fixable.

But Mr. Clark said that they were threatening to put him in jail.

Again, Hmmm.... :whatever:

I just think it sucks that one man's decisions can affect so many people in such a negative way.  Let's hear it for corporate america.  :flipthebird: :flipthebird: :flipthebird:
